SPYDERCO MILITARY KNIFE OVER 10 YEARS OLD

#1

Post by SWORDSMAN »

I am looking for a pocket clip for this old Spyderco Military Knife I bought maybe 15 y ears ago. I have the factory clip but it is too shiny and I am looking for a black non reflective clip. The ones I have seen for sale look different than mine. My knife has a 3 screw triangle shape base for the clip. It looks totally different than the newer Spyderco Military knives on current market.

Where can I find a replacement pocket clip for this knife in black finish?

I believe I have the clip you need. If you post a picture of the clip mounting area on your knife I can confirm it, and I'd be happy to send it to you.

it is a triangular shape with 3 screws that attach the pocket clip to knife.

I've been pleasantly surprised by contacting Spyderco's Warranty & Repair Dept. Sometimes they have parts left over from older models and as popular as the C-36 Military still is it wouldn't surprise me if they had what you are looking for. Is it one of the older 440V models or one of the very old ATS-34 Military models? I happen to love the older 440V models ( especially the Spyderedged 440V) because they don't currently make the C-36 Military in SE unfortunately.

Keep us posted and good luck and WELCOME TO THE FORUM by the way :)

Yes it is the 440V model. I probably bought it around the year 2000. It has a fully serrated blade. I will try to contact Spyderco.

If the clip mount looks like this, my black clip will work

Yeah, didn't they keep the same clip throughout the model change?

I don't know probably they kept the shiny chrome pocket clip but I would like to substitute it with a black clip if it will fit exact.

You can order these clips directly from Spyderco if you contact their warranty and repair department. Or if you want you can PM me your address and I can send you my extra clip.

The latest CQI Military models have a stop pin that looks pinned instead of screw construction. These also include a more rounded pocket clip, but the mounting for each type of clip is the same. I believe the earliest Military models had a 2 screw clip design.

Here is my CQI Military compared to the old style clip (The one I'll send Swordsman). Notice the corners of the clip on the bottom end:

If he ends up not wanting it I might rounds the corners off with my dremel then swap clips. I prefer black ones as well.

Not a huge difference, the end has been 'spoon-ified' on newer clips, i.e. rounded a bit. In-pocket placement is the same.

They both look good on a knife with a high cool factor.

It's the same old clip it has always used, just a bit more round on the tip which is more comfortable in your hand. Also the new black coating is more resistant to scratches than years ago, though it will scratch.

Burning the clip over stoves until bright orange will darken it. Clean it thoroughly, and then burn it.
It’s not black but definitely not shiny.
