My very first Spyderco

#1

Post by DDM_Reaper20 »

In 2000, I bought my first Spyderco, a SS Harpy. I had just finished Thomas Harris' "Hannibal", where the Harpy figures prominently.

I was intrigued by the description, and on a whim, decided to see whether such a thing was available. It was, and I immediately ordered it. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

My only folding knife I had had till then was a cheaply made bowie imitation, none too sharp, so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Harpy, though I paid the price in blood. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I did learn an important lesson, though: do not try to close a bill-hawk knife single-handedly.--

I now own a SS Police (SE), Civilian, Matriarch, Bob Lum Tanto. Great knives. :-)

Anyway, I recently ordered a Spyderhawk. Looking forward to that one.

Have a nice day...

Stay sharp, DDM_Reaper20

Thanks all! :-)

My "collection" is quite small but growing steadily.

I'm happy that I've never had to use a knife to defend myself, never even had to draw one. :-) The last time somebody held a knife to my throat, I dissuaded him by glibness of my tongue. It gave me a healthy respect of what a knife can do, though his was a cheap POS. ;-)

I'll have to bury the Spyderco catalogue deep down, or I'll be out of cash before the month's over...

Vie gehtz? Velcommen!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I too was

impressed by Mr. Harris' "Hannibal",

which turned out ( of course <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) to be

BETTER than the "Hollywood" flic! I had

a G-10 Harpy & EnduraHawk ( which I

sold & one passed on ) I currently

EDC my SE Merlin for it's lightweight

( but NOT on performance, mind! ) and

"modified" the clip from the flakable

black to SS ( as on the Rescue models )

courtesy of Mike Hayes @ warranty &

repair. Got a problem, or "bugs" with

your bugs? "e" Mike :

custsvc@spyderco.com for a former

Army type like yours truly not a bad

guy <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> OBTW : Velcommen "reaper"!!!!

Welcome mr. Reaper, it seems you've nice collection of Spydies.
Closing and opening a Harpy single-handedly is just a matter of practice. After a short while you'll be able to open and close it in a few seconds, even in the dark or with your eyes closed.
Spydies bite, we just have to learn to live with that... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

My first one has been the Jester. And after 2 days of possessing it, I wanted another Spydie, so in 3 months time, I bought the Jester, the MeerKat and the discontinued Rescue (without locking lever dent and indent on the spine).
I have the VIRUS,
next to come Centofante 25 with secure-lock PE

Howdy Reaper! Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Land! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Knifitis is a very fast progressing disease, and you seem an advanced case. I recommend immediate confinement in the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Addicts Treatment Center, to give your wallet some much-needed time off. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Never underestimate the impossible.
