Opus in the wild
Opus in the wild
Just saw the Spyderco Opus in the wild. Reminds me of a Renegade. Here's the description for those that have not seen yet.
The Opus is a balance of classic Spyderco lines and the unique style of its designer, noted German knifemaker Ulrich Hennicke. Its broad blade is full-flat ground from CPM S30V stainless steel and has an oversized Trademark Round Hole that is accessible with either hand. The handle's advanced ergonomic design and textured G10 scales can maintain a variety of grip styles and offer superior control and comfort, even during prolonged use. Its open-backed construction and skeletonized full stainless steel liners keep the knife's weight to a minimum, while offering superior strength of its liner lock mechanism. To keep the knife poised for immediate access, the Opus features a four-position hourglass clip compatible with all carry positions.

Like a super Endura. A bit pricey though.

Why is there a hole in the pocket clip?
Make time for the important things in life, and learn to enjoy the little things more.

So it can fit around the pivot screw when mounted tip down.Hopweaver wrote:Why is there a hole in the pocket clip?

Re: Opus in the wild
I suspect the pivot bolt protrudes a bit beyond the scales and the hole is there to allow for tip down carry. You can always buy one without the hole if it bothers you. I know that some folks feel it weakens the clip.Hopweaver wrote:Why is there a hole in the pocket clip?

That's a good question one of them might be a prototype. It doesn't necessarily mean the lanyard will line up with the clip though, the Ulize doesn't have a lanyard hole but it uses the same clip because of the pivot screw.

Re: Opus in the wild
The Blade HQ picture has the correct lanyard hole placement. Collector Club member #21 posted a picture of his Opus (along with the new Chinook and Police 4) that just arrived yesterday on the "Spyderco knives" Facebook page.

Re: Opus in the wild
The two pics are using different clips, have different lanyard locations, different pivot screws and one has an extra screw on the clip side. What is that extra screw for?

Interesting. The finished product seems to be a distillation of both the KC and BHQ pictures/renderings. The BHQ has the lanyard, pivot screw and clip, however is missing that extra screw. The KC has that screw, but the rest is all wrong.bearfacedkiller wrote:The two pics are using different clips, have different lanyard locations, different pivot screws and one has an extra screw on the clip side. I'm also wondering what that extra screw is for. Some sort of stop for the liner? It's hard to tell from the video where the screw lies in relation to the bend in the locking leaf.
