Somebody please sell me on the Chinook. I know that it's iconic. What do you like about it so much?
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

Excited to try out the power lock, also digging larger blades these days and love Persian style.jdw wrote:Somebody please sell me on the Chinook. I know that it's iconic. What do you like about it so much?

I like how the newest version lacks a choil and gains some cutting edge. I prefer that in my large knives.
Most likely going to end up with one of these. Skipped the previous generations but this one looks too good to pass up.

It's interesting that the power lock provides stronger lock up while being lighter than a traditional backlock.

Re: Spyderco Byte 8/2017
The Chinook is a terrific blade, thick spine and stout tip, nice belly and a well formed handle. Finger choil for the choked up close work and 4 way clip options (on the the Chinook II and later i believe). I love mine and would be hard pressed to ever let it go. Side note, it is one of the few I have left with the old "dino" jimping that I have a special affection for.jdw wrote:Somebody please sell me on the Chinook. I know that it's iconic. Edit because every thread needs pics.

I won't be the person to sell you on it, because I'm not a fan of up swept blades like this, but I liked the original because it was so beefy. I think the best thing going for the new one is better slicing (FFG) and the Power Lock.jdw wrote:Somebody please sell me on the Chinook. I know that it's iconic. What do you like about it so much?

Usually not a fan of larger folders. PM 2 is the largest folder I have. But this one really interests me. I love the shape, Keating is a legend, and the power lock has a lot of appeal.

PM2 is the smallest in my rotation :D

Not sure I'm sold on this. Japan made knives tend to be a bit over priced. I'll wait and see when it comes out

After working in a butcher shop for many years, I have a taste for upswept tips. They most certainly have their benefits, and lend themselves to a different cutting style and offer a different feel. I've lusted after the Chinook for a couple years now, so it's definitely on the short list. Definitely different enough to justify adding to the collection.

Re: Spyderco Byte 8/2017
Is whiskey a suggested pairing for the Chinook 4? I'm sure it would increase sales!
Seriously though, I'm glad this is finally on the way. Hopefully I'll be able to give one a workout this fall.
