Broken Tip Repair Question

#1

Post by Jimbo107 »

Hey everybody, new to the forum. Dropped my brand new all black Paramilitary 2 onto a tile floor, broke the tip, I'd guess about 2mm or so.

Anyway, sent it in to Spyderco in Golden and they should be getting it tomorrow. Just wondering if it'll come back as good as new? Also, is their turn around time pretty decent?

Not sure about turn around. A small regrind should be almost good as new. Obviously there will be a cosmetic difference.

I'd be happy with 2 weeks. Had to order a Delica 4 to keep me company while I wait ;)

What’s the cost for repair? $15?
The first time I saw a Spyderco was the early 90s at a knife shop in a mall. I can still see the SpydieHoles through that glass display cabinet. My parents wouldn't buy any of them for me... so now I buy them all. :spyder:

I would assume they grind the spine down to meet the rest of the edge but I've never seen one that was factory repaired so I dunno. That's how I'd do it anyway.

Update: Spyderco mailed it back to me 1 week from the day they received it. Knife looks as good as new, they even put a $20 bill in the box with a note saying it was an easy repair and they only needed $5 for shipping. Can't beat that! Awesome customer service.

That's fantastic! You don't find many companies these days that won't take advantage of you, let alone have INTEGRITY. Awesome.

I'm sure it only took them 5 minutes to repair. You should look into getting a Dremel for these minor jobs.

It was a brand new PM 2 with a broken tip. I have a dremel but I wasn't going to practice my first tip repair on a $120 knife. It cost me $10 this way and I can't even tell the tip was ever broke. Thanks for the "tip" though ! Haha!
