Is Spyderco about to release a new Chaparral?

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

I saw someone on Youtube doing a review on the Raffir Noble Chaparral and he had all five Chaparral models. However, he insisted that Spyderco is about to release a carbon fiber model, soon. Is that for real? Is he confused with FRN, or what?

when will Spyderco release the LW version? If it is carbon fiber, I hope it is pure carbon fiber with a red or blue thread. The G10 laminate is heavier than necessary.

Or, perhaps it will be FRN?

I hope FRN is next. I own all the Chap models and the CF is the only one I ever carry. I bet I'd carry the FRN more.

I hope everyone gets their personal preference in the diversified Chaparral line up as more models become available.

For myself however, I have no interest in the newer offerings so far. I much prefer the upscale appearance and solid feel of the three polished Titanium models and own two of each plus the one I carry. I previously tried the CF model but it wasn't for me and I did not keep it. There is so much more that could still be done with the Titanium models and I hope they will not be cast aside and neglected in the Chaparral line up.

I really like my stepped titanium Chapparal, the handle hides light scratches very well.

The Raffir Noble is getting a good response so far. We've experimented with a number of handle materials but for one reason or another have not worked out. The next Chaparral planned is the lite wt. The first color will be benign. Then we see what you want? If we come up with an interesting material and we can make it work, we will.

Please don't overlook the other "flavors" of Raffir Nobel or Raffir wood or fossil. So many look fantastic to me.

The Raffir Fossil is beautiful, would love to see that on a Chap!

Please don't make it black. I typically don't mind black and I understand why you use it on all your base models but I have way too many black Spydies already. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see the Chap LW have something other than black.

Don't worry. Sal already said he does not want black.

I'm a longtime lurker. I signed up to say I think a brown canvas micarta version would be awesome.

^^ +1

A micarta Chap is pretty much my dream variant, though I will definitely buy the lighweight and probably the RN as well. I'd be down with canvas, linen, or really any micarta. See: GEC.

Still waiting for Juniper or olive wood. Bolsters will be a plus.

I will be excited to see the LW. I wonder what color Sal decided upon?

Sal, is "benign" just some weird auto-correct garbled version of "beige"? ;) :)

I took 'benign' to mean that they would choose a safe color. I am hoping that means gray or dark blue ;)
