2.5 inch Native at Blade!

Post by Doc Dan »

Spyderco unveiled a new 2.5" bladed Native at Blade Show. The Little Native is going to be awesome. It appears a Compression Lock will be first, followed by a back lock version, and then a slip joint model. All three are going to be in regular production. They appear to have G10 scales and most likely S30V. I am already standing in line for the end of the year release.

A lot of us have been begging for a higher quality 2.5" locking knife and this looks like it will answer our desires.

Just watched the Blade HQ video of the Spyderco booth at Blade Show 2017. The Little Native with the compression lock seems fantastic. It even has the wire clip, which imo, is great and better than the hourglass clip.

Several of us mentioned we saw and handled the Lil Native at the OKCA show in April, so I'm not sure they were "unveiled" at Blade. That said, it's an awesome little knife.

Indeed it was at the OKCA show, and indeed it is awesome. I'm very happy that the comp lock will be made first! Thanks to Blade HQ for posting the video. I'm hoping that Eric is just being conservative about the release date being at the end of year, and that we will see it very soon.
Time for another :spyder:!

I like the looks of the Lil Natives but I'm still not sure I want another small knife. I'm already very happy with my Chap, Dragonflies, Urbans, etc. I'm also very happy with the full-sized Natives. So I don't see this new model replacing any of these others. I guess I'll see how it compares when they become available and I'll make my decision then.

I noticed on BHQ's Blade Show YouTube vid that the Lil Native with compression lock had the wire clip and the other two models had the hour glass clips. If I decide to buy one of these I would've had trouble deciding between the compression lock and the back lock. I like the look and feel of the full back spacer on the back lock model but I also like the simplicity and weight of the open construction used on the compression lock model. However, the wire clip on the compression lock model will probably be enough to push me toward that model.

I wonder what the cutting edge length is and the handle length?

Was curious what the cutting edge length will be as well. It looks like they're testing different size "choil to edge" ratios judging from the grinds on the prototypes. I'd personally vote smaller choil and more edge length.

I was wondering if I was the only one to notice the choil sizes. If the extra 1/4 inch over a Dragonfly only equates to 1/8 inch more edge because the other 1/8 is in the choil then I'll just stick with the Dragonfly.
