New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
Thanks to Mark's Outdoors in Vestavia Hills, AL as always.
Disclaimer: Holy crap y'all, this thing is freakin' beautiful. And therefore these pics are woefully inadequate, especially because the handles are glossy and catch some mad glare.

Thoughts:
OK, so I absolutely love the Chaparral design. I think it's one of the most aesthetically-pleasing designs in the whole line-up, similar to the Sages and the Caly3. And so far, all of the previous iterations have been very attractive knives. However, this one is easily, to me, the best-looking. I cannot emphasize how much that pictures are inadequate to appreciate the handles on this knife. Someone with a much better camera and much better experience and skill than I is likely to be able to do a better job capturing it in images, but I'm not sure it'd be enough. I might sound like I'm gushing, but it's just fantastic. And, of course, it's a Chaparral, so it's thin and light, with spectacular slicing blade and wonderfully-ergonomic handles. This one is no less a Chaparral than the others. I wasn't sure I'd want one, but this is the first repeat model I want since the HAP40 Dragonfly. Well done Spyderco... well done. If you are interested in this knife, do what you can to see it in person. I did, and now I'm wavering towards buying one (Dear Spyderco, please release the Caly3 sprint soon so I can get all my priorities straight.)
And the best part? It's another Chaparral for <$125. The Ti versions are great, but $$$...

That is really beautiful. Check out the OSOGrande video on this knife.

Randy at Mark's got 2 and I bought one of them at first glance because as you say, the scale material is basically enchanting. No picture captures how unique the material is
Re: New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
You hit it on the nail, pictures do this absolutely no justice! You have to see this in person and in the sunlight. It is a very beautiful piece.

I want one of these, but I am concerned that the handle appears to be slippery. I am wondering if the ribbons reach the surface to improve the grip??
Re: New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
Got my order in earlier today. Absolutely stoked about this one.
Re: New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
They do not, it is a little slippery but I don't think it'll be to much of a problem. One thing I've noticed is the acrylic seems to take surface scratches easy kind of like the back of my iPhone when I don't have a case on it. Isn't a deal breaker for me they are only noticeable if your looking for them. It is a beautiful piece I think everyone should add to the collection!Daniel wrote:I want one of these, but I am concerned that the handle appears to be slippery. What I do like about this offering is that no two Chaps should look the same.
Re: New Model Dropped: Chaparral Raffir Noble
Darn...I am torn on this one. On the one hand, it looks really neat, but on the other, I find I am more of a "tactile" guy in that I always end up carrying knives based more on feel than than looks, so I am concerned that I might not like the smooth handles if it's similar to polished micarta. I am just so used to G10 or peel-ply CF texture that I always come back to it for EDC...but I definitely want to go check this one out in person.

I just bought one of these for my wife for Mother's Day. It will be a few days late, but oh well. Can't wait to see one in person.

I think Sal & Co. picked the most handsome of Raffir's composites, but I'd LOVE to some some Chappy's wearing some of Raffir's other materials, too:

The other cool thing about these RN Chaps is that no two are exactly alike. Every one is unique.
