I picked these up a few months ago but had to modify the clip to get it to fit comfortably on the contoured scales. The CF is gorgeous but the lights in my office don't do it any justice. After seeing the Pakkawood D4 I had to get this one in my pocket until I get my hands on one of those...

No Chris, it's not an Endura. The fourth one from the left in that photo, and center knife in the first photo below, is an R2 that was customized and modified for me by Steve Rice (STR). At my request, Steve replaced the aluminum handle slabs with curly Koa scales over titanium liners, reshaping the grip area per a sketch I provided to round off the pointed center and give it a more Stretch/C14 Rescue/Atlantic Salt style grip. He also reshaped the blade spine for me to elimiate the rouned off point.

Paul,

Thank you. I totally forgot there’s that R! Cool!
Is that the Atlantic Salt plain edge? You’re lucky to get Steve mod! :spyder:
I think he no longer accept orders.

YVW Chris, and you're right on both counts.

The Atlantic is plain edge and I was definitely extremely lucky to get Steve to do all three of those knives, plus a few others, back when he was modding Spydercos. Not too many out there who'll take on projects where they not only have to make scales but liners, and in the case of the Atlantic a backspacer, as well.

I almost jumped in and guessed "R" but the pointy peak on the modified handle butt threw me off. I love the R and wish they'd bring it back. The Nishijin version is one of my favorites, a nice non-Stretch medium sized knife :) But for me, I'd like to stick with the more hand-filling original handle shape.

Who made these? I'd love to try a set of contoured scales on a Delica...

I was trying to convince Mr Butcher to give it a whirl, but he politely declined...

There was a stainless steel washer that set inside the G10 scale acting as an anchor for the screw. I think I have photos showing this part on my PC.

It shows in one of your pics earlier in this thread in another recent thread. I was wondering about that too, and if you "self tapped" it with the screw or what? Also how you attached the tip up clip on the millie (in the same recent thread).

Allow me :D It was in the "Show Your Mods" thread

And the tip-up Millie.. how are the screws secured in it?

I don't own either any more so I have to go off of memory. From what I recall on the Para 1 the disc was tapped to accept the clip screw and the G10 scale had been sanded down so the washer sat flush. On the Military to the best of my knowledge the screws just went into the CF scale and that was that. I can't remember there being anything else to it, but it's been nearly a decade since I owned it so there's a good chance I could be wrong. Possibly using helicoils?

I really liked that Military, I just couldn't get the edge I wanted on BG42.

That clip goes really well with the Military, but but when & if I convert one to tip up, I'm going to keep the original clip and move it to the other side, which will convert it to left-hand at the same time. You righties could order a left-hand clip and do the same, if they still have any in stock. I think it's cool to keep the traditional clip. I may do that with a D2 PM1 as well, though I like your wire clip.
