Let's get some SRS-15 steel on some FRN This Year!

The Japanese have lots of unique high performance steels that we simply do not have any access to on folders with Spyderco's Japanese sprint run

I have been using an 240mm Akifusa PM Migaki in the kitchen since christmas, Its a fricken laser. Very thin blade.

It has a laminated piece of SRS-15 stainless powdered steel at the core sandwiched between two pieces of 400 series stainless to hold it all together.

This steel rocks!

its at 63-64 HRC

the composition is the same as CPM Cruwear but has the chromium increased from ~8% to ~13%

This is Stainless Cruwear guys

We want this!

I wish we had this from Crucible :(

Why?!

Cruwear and SRS-15 sharpen like a dream, somewhat similar to super blue, but tougher and more wear resistant. SRS-15 has the added bonus of less maintenance in wet and corrosive environments with the same benefits of cruwear.

I've been using my gyuto and pm2 and could not be happier with the class of steel.

Lets get them SRS-15 delica's boys! Wooo! :D

let our voices be heard! :D

They've done Blue Super and MBS-26, so SRS-15 sounds right up that alley.

I've used some MBS-26 on a Masahiro gyoto, it was 'ight, nothin' crazy, reminded me of something in between aus 8 and vg10, Balanced and affordable but not mind blowing, nothing that would tip the scales in favor over other designs unless the price was good but I'd still rather have vg-10.

Super blue is a different story, that stuff is killer, love that edge taking, gets screamin' with minimal effort.

yeah, mbs is good but vg10 is a tad better on kitchen cutlery. too bad no manufacturer is willing to grind vg10 as thin as the MBSes like what sal said

There are certainly Japanese *kitchen knives* that are ground extremely thin in VG-10, they are usually HT to a higher hardness than a folder as well, but that 's because it's assumed those blades won't see the kind of harsh cutting tasks that an EDC folder might.

My two favorite kitchen knives are made of laminated V2, they're a PITA to care for compared to a stainless blade, but the way they take a literal "razor blade" edge and how easy it is to touch up are worth the effort IMO.

If there really is a Japanese CruWear equivalent, I'd be a sucker for a Sprint series in that steel, definitely sign on for another Delica and D'fly, possibly a Manbug or Stretch as well...

Sounds good. You can put me down for the usual, a Delica and a Stretch. :)

This sounds like a perfect idea for Delica, Endura, and Stretch and other models.

I had Haruyuki in SRS15 (which is same OEM as Akifusa), good steel. Can't compare it to cruwear, but it takes a good edge and holds it decently. For some reason it does not get that much love compared to HAP40 or R2 (SG2), not too many options.
If Spyderco would make a sprint run in it, I would definitely consider to get it. For example Endura SRS-15 G10

I'm all for trying SRS 15 out in a sprint. As far as sprints go I'm all for controlling cost and I'm fine with FRN for sprint runs. If they save me $30 per knife over carbon fiber I prefer it. :)

I'm finding this a very interesting thread from the standpoint that VG-10 which of course is Spyderco's main line steel for it's "Japan made" units has been with us for almost 20 years or so. Hey don't get me wrong because I'm not knocking VG-10 in the least bit>> but with all the new supersteels on the horizon I do think it's high time for Spyderco to put some of these other Japanese steels to the test just to see how they perform on Spyderco's products.

They could do Sprint Runs of the Delica, Endura and even the Harpy which all three would be great units to test these newer/better blade steels. Hey if this SRS 15 is the "Cat's Meow" then let's give it a try on something like the C-17 Catcherman or even one of the kitchen models for that matter.

This idea is way overdue in my humble opinion.

I like Cruwear and I like FRN, but I love Golden, CO...cut out the middleman and just make a Cruwear Native 5 LW. Like Donald Trump, I also never tire of winning

This is still my #1 most wished for knife. I think we need a round of Cruwear sprints in both DLC and stonewash for 2019. Native LW, Native G10, Manix LW, Lil Native Comp Lock, Shaman, Para 3 LW, and Military (last Cruwear millie was pre-CQI changes...we need a new CQI version in Cruwear!)!

Oh, and this SRS-15 should be the next Seki sprint steel as well! PLEASE NO CLADDING THOUGH. I would love a Dfly, Dfly Whanie, Strech, Endela, and Jester!
