Knife suggestion for carving

#1

Post by Marty_E »

I want to carve small totems (animals) out of blocks of wood no bigger than 2"x2". I like to get suggestions on Syderco knives that I should consider for the task.

Thanks for the suggestions. I prefer the folders for ease of carry.

The Delica Wharncliffe might be an attractive option.

Nilakka. Get it while you still can.
Kiwi 4. Get it while you still can.
Des Horn. Get it if you can.
The WolfSpyder works well, but I don't know that it is worth ordering from overseas and paying International shipping. Mine is a factory second.
The Grasshopper is actually not too bad, and if you ever run across a Centofante C25GP, it makes a nice whittling knife. For a fixed blade, the K09 paring knife makes a pretty decent whittling knife as well.

The upcoming Baby Jess Horn sprint looks like it would be a good choice for wood carving. I may have to get one just for that purpose.

I actually like to carve with my PM2 M4. The super sharp tip works really well for detail stuff.
