2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
I'll take some different colored or different material Micarta options. I don't know if you could put a pattern on Micarta. Probably if you can do the laminate G-10/CF texture method. Maybe different G-10/Micarta colors like they do with liners on fixed blades.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
^^I've long dreamed of a micarta Chaparral.
Been close to buying a GEC Bullnose on several occasions due to their awesome micarta scale options, but I know I'd rarely carry one over my Spydies, if ever...

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Getting back to the Lightweight/FRN Chaparral concept, please continue using the dress pants friendly wire clip for this new model. It'll continue to create separation of the Chaparral from the Delica.
My aesthetic choice is something like the transparent blue color ala the Manix 2, although color is secondary.
More important please change the shape of the back lock indent, away from the current angular to a traditional round (or elliptical) cut out. I'm sure I'm the only one who doesn't like it, but the angular cutout shape looks like an afterthought on a curved back, imo. Do this so I can stop lurking on eBay stocking up on NOS Gen2 Delica. :D

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
I really don't think the Chap and the Delica are very similar. The ergonomics are totally different for me. I'm not a huge fan of the Delica (or the Endura--please no one shoot me), but I love the Chaparral.
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
How about something other than black for the first one?
Dark blue? Burgundy? Some extra pizazz right off the gate.

I agree! This really needs to be done in a nice color.FCM415 wrote:How about something other than black for the first one?

I guess I'm in the minority. I just want your basic Chap, as is, with standard FRN scales. Produce them in several colors if you want, but keep it basic. Nothing exotic or over the top.
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
I'm not an FRN fan but if they came out in burgundy I might have to have one.FCM415 wrote:How about something other than black for the first one?

My EDC rotation: Kapara, Chaparral CF, Mantra, Sage 1, Sage 5, Dice, Domino, Gayle Bradley 2, PakkaDelica, Native CFF
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Charcoal, Burgundy, or Navy Blue FRN would be my votes- all are muted colors but are still a little "brighter" than black and would make the knife still feel formal enough for a gentleman's knife like the chap is marketed to be

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
The Raffir Noble Chaparral is due out this year and, at least so far, Spyderco has never released two Chaparral versions in the same year. Sal has also mentioned carrying a prototype all stainless one, so that may very well be next in the queue. That leads met to suspect it may be a while before we see an FRN Chaparral.

Reminds me more of the FRN Caly Jr, but whatever. I want one either way.FCM415 wrote:It's a Taiwan Delica with XHP

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Well, that would suck, especially, since you know the stainless steel one is going to be another "more expensive" offering, as opposed to an FRN variant. The Deacon wrote:The Raffir Noble Chaparral is due out this year and, at least so far, Spyderco has never released two Chaparral versions in the same year. Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Possibly, but I wonder how much cheaper an FRN Chaparral will be compared to the CF and RN versions. FRN molds are expensive and that cost has to be amortized across the estimated sales. So, unless Spyderco thinks they'll sell a lot of them, they may be able to sell them for much less than the two I mentioned.this_is_nascar wrote:Well, that would suck, especially, since you know the stainless steel one is going to be another "more expensive" offering, as opposed to an FRN variant. The Deacon wrote:The Raffir Noble Chaparral is due out this year and, at least so far, Spyderco has never released two Chaparral versions in the same year. Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
I meant my post more like it's Taiwan's Delica, especially now that it will be in FRN molded scales. With an added bonus of having a popular American steel.shimage wrote:Reminds me more of the FRN Caly Jr, but whatever. I want one either way.FCM415 wrote:It's a Taiwan Delica with XHP
But yeah all three knives serve the same purpose for me.

This sounds coherent and I fear you are right PaulThe Deacon wrote:The Raffir Noble Chaparral is due out this year and, at least so far, Spyderco has never released two Chaparral versions in the same year. I hope FRN Chaparrals come better yesterday than today ... the older I get the more I like thin blades in small folders and FRN is rather underrated IMHO.

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Just to add a tidbit to the discussion... At this year's OKCA show a couple of weeks ago, the FRN Chap sat alongside the Raffir Noble one, and it was the second year they brought the FRN one to Oregon. No SS Chap in sight (at least that I noticed). Cheers, Radioactive :)

Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
How did the RN Chap look in person?
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
Did anyone get any pictures of the FRN Chap where we can see it up close?
Re: 2017 - Lightweight/FRN Chaparral
No pics yet as we're still refining. But we're pushing hard to get it done.
