Sal 1981

#1

Post by The CoPilot »

A Google search turned up this picture of Sal from April 1981 demonstrating the Sharpmaker. I thought he (and everyone else) would get a kick out of it.

Here is the caption that goes with the picture:
"APR 7 1981, APR 8 1981; Inventor Demonstrates Ceramic Sharpening System; Sal Glesser developed system for sharpening almost anything."

This would have been right around the time when the C01 Worker was first introduced.

A blast from the past!

Handsome and distinguished indeed. :)

Is it just me, or does the younger Sal look similar to Dos Equis' "Most Interesting Man in the World?"

Hmmm... ;) :D

Very likely. I think he and and Gail were the whole company in those days. I know they set up booths at numerous state fairs, sports shows and trade shows, selling their sharpener and later added a few knives.

Sorta just flows right off the tongue.

I was about 2.5 years old :D

Considering some of the products of the time (Ginsu knives) it's a wonder Sal never had an infomercial for it.

I wonder if Sal still has that suit, must be worth a fortune by now :D

Were the sharpmaker stones longer back then?

I don't think the stones were longer back then, but the camera angle that the photographer chose certainly makes them look that way.

Not entirely sure which model of the Sharpmaker this is. Model 202?
