PM2 in M4 - either one. We asked for and wanted this for so long and finally got not one, but two, versions!
The Cruwear one is a strong bonus, but the M4 has been an ask for much longer.
The GB2 is a strong second though. Also much anticipated and a real winner!

dogrunner could you pick your favorite out of the 2, I know the Nirvana is way ahead but it would be nice if you could clarify which one you prefer the cf or jade g10 :)

Revisiting the year, my answer kinda surprises me: GB2

Really hard to pick one, but the fit/finish and value of the GB2 is incredible. Even if I still favor the GB1, the balance of the GB2 is just perfect.

Sage5 in pocket today, and the CF M4 PM2 is probably my most carried of the bunch followed by the Mantra2. Putting M4 in the PM2 was kinda awesome... Arg! I have til the 7th to change my answer right?

The GB2. Overall best value in a knife right now IMO. Awesome blade steel in all that Taichung goodness, and a gayle bradley design at that!!

So many great choices and it's a difficult decision. I'll also pick from knives I actually own and for me it would have to be the Mantra.

Taichung F/F, great ratios and carryability, insane value proposition compared to Spyderco and other brands.
It also has those Spyderco features (and build quality) while bridging over to a more mainstream look.

I don't have many on that list, but I think I need to get a GB2, Sage 5 and a Hap40 Stretch, all of which are on my want list.

Of what I do own, my Mantra has become my favorite knife.

Why ?
Hallow Grind, not the cheap looking and cheaper flat.
Carbon Fiber Laminate, well at least there is some carbon fiber to add a nice look. Could have just used all carbon fiber but there's more profit this way.
Liner lock, yea its my preference.

No B.S. clip, not the wire, not some crazy looking modern art piece but the best clip, the hour glass, there is only one.
Steel.... tool steel, Thank Gayle.... I guess I'll just keep oiling it. Could have used CPM S30V but even VG10 would have been fine. It is what it is, at least they used good tool steel.

That's gonna be the Spyderco Nirvana.

Even if I don't love some of the overly thick blade design choices, it is unquestionably Spyderco's most impressive knife of the year. Second place goes to the SpydieChef.

I'll abstain from voting then, as I don't really have any other Spyderco folders, nor did any on the 2016 lineup speak to me vociferously.

It's not my 'contest', but the GB2/Mantra/et al came out 2015-Q4, so there wasn't much runway there to garner recognition, considering most people didn't get theirs until 2016. I'm glad to see they got some love nonetheless.

I think it has to be the Nirvana just on wow factor alone. For me personally it's probably the S110V Military with the 52100 Military a very close second if not a tie. If I could manage corrosion more I would probably EDC the 52100 exclusively, but I work outdoors and in the rain quite a bit so it just takes more effort than I want to deal with for an EDC knife. 52100 is still my steel of the year though, I'm blown away by it.

The M4 PM2 would be my personal favorite from this year, but the Nirvana is simply unique and unprecedented, so it wins.

Personally, 2016 was the year of the Military with 3 models (one each of production run, sprint run and dealer exclusive) all with the CQI improvements and with various premium steels!

Yes, the Mantra & GB2 were delivered in 2015 but they were listed as new models in the 2016 catalog and did not appear in the 2015 catalog. The GB2 was listed in the 2015 mid-year supplement. So I think that makes it a 2015 model. However, the Mantra didn't appear in any catalog until 2016. So, as far as I'm concerned, it's a 2016 model. Doesn't really matter I guess.

If I have to choose another model I would say it's a tossup between the Paramilitary 2 Cruwear and the Sage 5. I just flipped a coin so....

I agree with Sharp Guy, Mantra was listed in the 2016 catalog year. But, I'll vote for the Cruwear PM2 if I have to pick again.

When I got the Stretch it was really a pleasant surprise. It felt, next to, perfect in my hands. It's a really nice size for me and I love the choil. Also, HAP40 has only proven its greatness for me, and I'm excited to try the upcoming Meerkat and Caly 3.
