Flippers and Stop Pin Hammer

#1

Post by gull wing »

I like flippers, especially ball bearing ones. The Southard, Dice, Mantra are my BB flippers and are fun to use.
I wondered if anyone has suffered the dreaded stop pin hammer, the blade striking the stop pin and slightly indenting the pin so as to cause the lock lug to move "over" to the "other" side? I have an OCD thing about lock lugs that are close to the non-lock side.
:) None of mine are at that point because I rotate them.
Are any yours?

I guess this is possible but it seems like you would have to be flipping with some real force to get there, or be flipping like 100s of times an hour for no reason which would just as likely create premature lock face wear. The good news is it's a pretty easy thing to fix especially if the knife also has a steel lock face insert. Those knives can potentially be rebuilt and used forever.

When I flip open my Domino, I flip it extremely hard, and as far as I can tell the lockup hasn't changed in the past 2 years.

How hard are you flipping them?

Oh, I've suffered it with my ole Sage 2. I didn't do it hard, just often.
I hope I've learned since then. :o

This might have happened to my PM2 after a year of flicking. Lockup is at 100%.
