Official Petition for a Premium Tenacious

#1

Post by Evil D »

The Tenacious has so much going for it, from great simple ergonomics that work, to having an equal amount of edge length and blade length, which is something of a rare feature in this day of 50/50 choils. I have no problem with Chinese made Spydies, and it definitely fills a need in the value lineup. But, I think the design is good enough to merit a high end steel and higher end fit and finish to go along with it. Despite everything good it has going for it, I just need something more in those two departments.

So, who's with me?

This is a topic I had planned on starting a thread on, you conveyed exactly what I was thinking.

it doesn't have to be super premium for me. I'd be fine with made in USA and cts-bd1.

That sounds good to me.

Perhaps the "Premium Tenacious" could eventually even act like a folding Mule Series? (I.e. Offer higher end or new steels in an affordable folder package).

If you want a better steel and better fit and finish, you're talking about a different knife made somewhere else.

That would be like going to 2nd base with a call girl. If we doin this, do it all the way. Liner lock equal to Military and premium steel.

Sal listens, and if it suits his fancy or looks like a business move, this could happen. Might be a Taichung thing instead of Golden, but never say never with Spyderco

Well show me a knife in a similar size in FFG with good ergonomics and an edge that comes clear back to the handle.

Too bad it has yet to happen. Remember the one time discussed 52100 Tenacious? How about the time when Sal told us that a planned better steel Tenacious was scrapped because he didn't like the HT inconsistency (when they use non- China steels) in China facilities that he dealt with at the time. Maybe things change now and they can manage to HT (beyond BD1) to Sal's standards?

BTW, I think that they intend to have the Polestar fill a role somewhat of a higher end updated Tenacious.

It's a step in that direction for sure. I'm more interested in that machined pattern in the G10.

It looks like it's gonna be excellent. $50 price range is wide open competitively and it checks a lot of boxes.

As far as I know, the factory using Carpenter BD-1 in China is a different factory than the one making the Tenacious.

I would consider the Raven a premium Tenacious. But yeah, I'd love to see either with M4 or something.

Doesn't enthuse me.

Just as the flipper sensation has clouded one of Spyderco's genuine claims to fame, gentrifying the affordable Tenacious will confuse Spyderco's best invitation to its wondrous brand.

These opinions are minority ones, I know.
