zdp-189 edge question

#1

Post by jerryh »

Speaking in particular about zdp-189 - Is the leading edge (cutting edge) heat treated differently than the body of the blade? Hypothetical - If I had a delica zdp-189 and I wanted to reshape the leading edge to a wharncliffe - would the new leading edge (the wharncliffe edge) have the same hrc as the leading I just removed? Little note - I'd not be using power tools to remove the edge. Thanks, Jerry

If I'm following what you're asking correctly, no the edge is not heat treated differently than the rest of the blade. It's all the same hardness. To my knowledge the only Spyderco steel that's kinda sorta like that is H1, because of "work hardening" and the effects of cutting serrations.

No, your ZDP189 is not differentially hardened.
