Do you ever feel "incomplete" without your Spydie EDC(s)???

#1

Post by KBR »

Yesterday, I took the wife and kids to see her brother at a correctional facility and felt absolutely "naked" without any of my EDCs. Due to the fact that the guards occasionally search the vehicle before entry into just the parking lot, I decided to only take my Leatherman SuperTool 200 while leaving ALL of my regular EDC blades at home. Of course, absolutely NO knives, firearms, etc., are allowed in the facility itself, but I didn't take any blades because of the front gate guards' prerogative to either be a professional about the search or to be a d!ck. These guards have sometimes turned people away for the most ridiculous reasons, and because it was about a two hour drive away, I didn't want to take a chance on being rejected at the gate just because of any knives that I would have had in the truck.

After the visit, I felt a little better with the ST200 back in its' sheath, but without my primary blade(Military CE), and others, I just didn't feel "right".

Has this ever happened to you? For those of you that may go through this on a daily basis(jails, courthouses, etc.)....I don't know how you do it. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I always keep a knife at hand. I would defintely feel bad without the feeling of a trusty blade near me.

KBR,

I have been in this situation a few times, and it does feel quite strange and uncomfortable.

What I've noticed most lately however is that whenever I take off my EDC for any reason, say when I get home and I'm changing clothes, etc. and I go to do something without donning the knife again... Presto!...I need it right away.

I simply do not know how I ever got along without one before I started "carrying" every day.

It does feel strange to disarm when entering the secured section of a jail.

Before I had a EDC I didn't miss anything.
After I got my Spydie I had to place one at work, just in case I would forget my ususal EDC, what never happened.

I also feel kind of naked without my EDC.

I have to admit, I do feel a little too "light" when I remove all my EDC's plus other tools.

Strange... must be one of the bug's side effects... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

There are a couple of times that I have forgot to unclip my spydie from my old pants from the day befor and in a rush to get out the door in the morning I find myself at work reaching for a knife I don't have.

Not a good feeling.

I have always (Since 12 years of age) carried a knife on me for EDC. If I´m without I really feel naked! Well sometimes I really am. But even naked in the shower I feel more dressed, then without a knife on the street<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Being without is like a panic attack when you forget your passwords at work or even here on this forum. How many pockets have you almost ripped off when it suddenly hits you that you don't have your blade on you and you get that sick feeling-THE OH S--- feeling. It's like those days you go off without your watch. I have had this happen many times in the past 55 years-I've been carrying a knife since I was 5. Long before this political correct crap came about.
Just a few of my thoughts on the subject.
Have a great day.

Sooo, Vox, that's why you bought all stainless steel Spydies...it all makes sense now. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I normally carry at least one of my Spydies 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I go to a college where they don't really care if you have a knife, providing that you don't take it in the dorms. So I'll pack my SS Harpy, LadyBug, and SpyderCard before I head out the door every morning.
There was one day this past summer that I recall not having my 'regular' EDC on me, and that was at my cousin's wedding.<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> My Starmate was too dang big to clip IWB carry position on my dress pants. But I did have my Micarta Jester in my front right pocket...

Yep. I almost always have a blade of some form on me, unless law specifically prohibits it. However, some of the laws are particularly pointless.

Example: The last three football seasons, I have worked a concession stand at Uni. Prior to 9/11, I'd keep the bladeware subdued, a SAK or a Scout knife, and had no problems. After 9/11, ALL bladeware was banned, or anything remotely resembling an edge. A friend of mine had a spark plug gapper on his keys removed because "it looked sharp".

Now, the kicker. I still work the stands, but bladeless. However, if I ask the supplier for something to open myriad boxes with, I get a 9" serrated butcher! They won't trust the average person with a keychain knife, but magically I am trusted with a kitchen knife. Preposterous.

Never underestimate the impossible.

Since buying my PE SpydieCard in June, I have never been knifeless... I was supposed to be for 51days this summer, but also had: SS PE 'Fly, SwissTech UtiliKey, buck minitool... yet they claimed my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> books and 303MF at kit check(got them back on day 50).

they even saw my keys that same time, when I took them out to open my bag... duh...

Yes. I find it is impossible to leave the house knowing that I don't have one of my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> with me. Once I left my EDC on the bathroom sink and realized I didn't have it later at Wal Mart. I had a panic attack thinking for sure I had lost it somewhere. I was very relieved when I got back to the house and found it on the sink. "How do you spell relief? S-P-Y-D-E-R-C-O!"

Sometimes I forget - and boy do I feel not only naked and lost, but dumb as well.
Well actually unless I forget my wallet - you know T.H.E. wallet <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I am not completely spydieless.

However, more often I am angry - I will spare you the rant I did on BF - that I, a responsible and accountable adult for at least 35 years (if you count age 21 as "adulthood"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, am forced to go knifeless in so very many places now.

That is all I will say for the moment.

I too like not the sensation of having no knife, nor the violation of being denied a blade.
