Who can convert a Pacific Salt to FFG?

Postby vivi » Wed Sep 07, 2016 3:24 pm

The Pacific Salt is one of my favorite knives, but I'd like a full flat ground one even better.

Who do you know that could do the conversion for me? I'd like to buy a new one and get it reground before I put it into service.

Since Krein basically stopped, Josh at REK would be my go to. His work is much more...precise than almost everyone else I've seen doing it.

I'd love to know of a highly reputable, skilled person for regrinds. The one knife I've sent away for one took forever and I was extremely disappointed with the results so now I'm hesitant to bother. I need more than just a factory looking end result, I need to know the person doing it understands heat and isn't going to screw up my blade.

As strongly as I recommend and swear by Steve Ketchen for scale mods, I can not possibly more highly recommend Josh at Razor Edge Knives for sharpening and reprofiling jobs (and he does a mean cerakote)! This man's work and skill level is amazing!

Josh's BF custom services site:

His website:

Again, I can't recommend him any more highly!! He's reprofiled more than a half dozen of my knives into scalpels! Cheers, Radioactive :)

I thought H1 does not do that well with FFG and is why they went with the saber grind.

In a production setting no, but one at a time on a belt isn't hard at all. There have been some really nice H1 regrinds posted here in the past.

I will also highly recommend Josh at REK. Although I haven't seen him work with H1 before, I have no doubt he can pull it off based on what I have seen. He has personally done work for me on several knives and has always done a great job and had excellent communication.

Evil, Krein used to be THE go to guy. I had, at one point, around a dozen regrinds from him. Absolutely perfect work. Josh at REK appears to have just gotten better and better. I don't have anything from him yet, but when I have something reground next, it'll be from him.

Unfortunately Josh says he wants the knife taken apart before the regrind. Not easy to do on a Pacific Salt.

Krein out of the regrind business? I remember he did H1 folders.

Krein has been out for years. Like...5 or 6 at least? He occasionally does them, but usually for repeat customers or people he knows, or ones that he does in batches. No custom orders for quite a few years now.

I had a ton of Krein's regrinds. Several in H1. Nowadays I think I'd go to Josh as long as he's accepting new orders.

I have seen a pic of a Southard regrind on a Pac Salt. I dont know if its something he still does though or if he will do FFG.
