Manix LW in RWL34?

#1

Post by Surfingringo »

I just think this would make a nice offering, whether it was released as an exclusive, sprint or regular production model. To me there is a wide gap between the two steels used in the current production Manix LW's. I don't know if we are going to see any more rwl34 but if we did it seems that the Manix LW would be a ripe platform in which to introduce it.

-Disclaimer: I have never actually used any rwl34 and I am basing my suggestion on my familiarity with cpm-154.

Wasn't the original manix2 in that steel in a Sabre grind rather than the current FFG?
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

I don't think Spyderco has ever used cpm154 on a production knife have they?

I would be interested in seeing this. I don't have a ManixLW and the current steel choices are the main reason. There is quite a gap between BD1 and S110V. I would love to see a Cruwear ManixLW.

I'd be up for either steel choice in a LW Manix. Even as a sprint it would really fill a gap between the two regular offerings.

I would like to see RWL34 in a thinner ground blade than on the Manix, personally, but it would be a fun option on anything.

I would be interested in this as well. I used to have an Anso custom in RWL34 (which I sadly had to sell in hard times) and it was an outstanding steel.

YES to Cruwear, but RWL-34 or CPM-154 would be nice options, especially in an affordable model like the Manix LW

I agree totally lance, we are due for another M2 LW, I've never tried RWL34 but would grab one for sure. I also want some more cruwear,

Yes, I completely agree. Most of my experience with cpm154 is in one of Phil Wilsons fillets and it is a great performer in a thin grind. Regarding the Manix, I almost mentioned Cruwear too. That would also make a good bridge for the existing gap. I would by either....or both.

Cruwear has already been done in the Manix format and can still be found on the secondary market and I think the frcp would benefit more from a stainless steel. Either RWL34, CPM154 or Elmax would be great choices for me.

Remember the Cutlery Shoppe orange lw exclusive will be s90v.

So it's confirmed then? Darn. I was hoping for something not that close to S110V

I cannot recall neither production or even any kind of limited runs with cpm154, not counting laminate with outer layer with cpm154.
I always wanted to try this steel, but I would rather have Native5, N5 LW or even para2 than Manix.
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf"

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

There is a local custom maker that works a lot in CPM154. I've had several of his small fixed blades for years now and it's a great all round steel. Thing is, kind of set with PM2's and Mil's in S110V which kind of drags me off topic relative to a nice LW Manix. Would a small to mid filet knife be too expensive in RWL34?

The only thing I remember was last year they said that they were looking at what steel to use and were thinking to go with s90v. I don't remember ever seeing confirmation. I hope that they reconsidered that decision. S90v is no longer novel and the exact design exists in a production form in s110v...a steel which is extremely similar but is slightly superior in most every way. I'm not saying they won't sell, but a more interesting/less used steel that split the gap between BD1 and s110v would outsell s90v by a mile I believe.
