Ackerman Sustain
I haven't seen any news on this knife but from the info released so far it looks pretty cool. The knife is designed by our very own Stuart Ackerman and is Spyderco's first knife featuring cpm 20cv. You get a 3mm thick blade that measures 157mm (that's 6.19" in old money) and a leather sheath. If that's not enough the msrp on this is $299.95 which means a street price of $179, that's the same price as the Junction and Sprig which are smaller knives. It seems to me you are getting a lot of bang for your buck on this one :D

Yes. I love it. This is a must buy for myself. Hopefully, Ill have enough funds to get one once they're released.
M390/204P/20CV are great steels from what I understand. I know I love my 204P Millie and my others in M390.
As you say, its a lot of bang for your buck too.
I seriously doubt it'll ever do for me what the Temperance 2 does, but will be a heckuva fixed blade Spydie nonetheless.

It'll be interesting to see how Spyderco's 20cv performs seeing as this is their first knife in the steel but Spyderco are renowned for nailing their heat treat so I'm guessing it's gonna be good. I hope Jim Ankerson gets a hold of one to test :)MacLaren wrote:Yes. I love it. This is a must buy for myself. Hopefully, Ill have enough funds to get one once they're released.

Yeah. I've no doubt Spyderco will nail it, and nail it good with the HT.Johnnie1801 wrote:It'll be interesting to see how Spyderco's 20cv performs seeing as this is their first knife in the steel but Spyderco are renowned for nailing their heat treat so I'm guessing it's gonna be good. Wasn't there a PM2 in this steel?MacLaren wrote:Yeah. I handled the custom version of this at the Amsterdam meet 2 years ago, and it was surprisingly light. May be due to the large swedge? Either way a lot of knife for the weight.

There was a pm2 with 20cv.
Or.......was it 20cp?
Isn't 20cp Carpenters version of s90v?

Re: Ackerman Sustain
PM2 was 20CP, Carpenter's version of S90V.
This knife is 20CV, Crucible's version of M390/204P.
Similar letters, but very different steels.

Thank you for choosing such a good steel!
And developing such a nice fixed blade :)
Props to Sal and Spyderco of course too

Sal chose the steel...not me... :)

I should have quoted. My "ah good call" was in reference to the below post that I had confused 20CP and 20CV.Stuart Ackerman wrote:Sal chose the steel...not me... :)

That said, it was a very nice knife and I look forward to picking one up.

Hello Stuart! What was the reasoning behind the choice of steel? To use something new?Stuart Ackerman wrote:Sal chose the steel...not me... :)

Also, what uses did you have in mind for this knife? General purpose woods blade, pig-sticker, anti-zombie knife that sort of thing?
Still a big fan of your Serrata, I pick it up whenever I want to feel like a badass

Bruno
Re: Ackerman Sustain
Only fixed blade I'll be getting this year, except for the rock salt, but that was on account of it being a sprint run...really looking forward to this ...as I only get fixed blades at about a 1 in 30 ratio. They have to grab me.
