Your test has certainly piqued my interest. Thanks for the report.
As far as production knives go I still like S110V.

Oh my God, if I looked at that chart correctly, then Maxamet is an absolute power plant....
My K390 Mule 860. Maxamet1940!!
And K390 is a beast!
Can you imagine a Phil Wilson custom about .5 behind the edge in Maxamet?
Jim, am I missing anything here?
I apologize in advance if I am fellas/ladies.

Thanks for the test as always, Not sure why but I am on the fence about this one. May get one instead of the usual two.

"The wear resistance of Micro-Melt Maxamet alloy is better than that of conventional powder metal high speed steel grades and is equivalent to AISI A11 cold work powder metal tool steel."

So concerning knives basically it's 10V at 67-68 HRC where grinding with power tools won't screw up the heat treatment unless you're blatantly careless.

Appreciate the testing. I went back and bought a second one after considering what we're getting for $110. Not that I'll experience elevated attributes directly. It just makes the knife, and metallurgy in general, that much more interesting.

Pretty amazing thing to get a Maxmet mule for any price really. I really never expected to see this steel in a knife I could afford.

Jim, is that hardness accurate?

Thanks,

Joe

Thank you Jim for your dedication, your patience, and your tenacity! These tests are of incredible value to the knife community.

After seeing your results, I ordered one without hesitation. When mine arrives, I will perform my own extensive test by slicing up 2 sheets of notebook paper. :D

As far as production knives go I still like S110V.
May I ask why you prefer S110v? It seems your testing shows maxamet cut more than s110v. I am debating the Native in maxamet vs s110v so curious if you still favor one

I join in the question—deciding on buying PM2 in S110V or MAXAMET depending on how long it stays sharp and the difference in HRC between the two.

I can't fathom how a knife can go thru 4K ft of cardboard and still slice newspaper...

Thanks, JIm.

Would I be correct in assuming that the new Manix 2 in Maxamet will be the same hardness and temper?
