See SPT run!

I just wanted to write and compliment Sal and Spyderco for the SPT. I have the micata model and find it to be the perfect everyday wear. It is extremely light and can be worn discretely under anything. Around my neck or in my hand, it's at home at work in the city, as well as at play in the mountains. It's amazing that s first intro to the neck knife market put them right at the top. Again... I tip my hat to you.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary. Thanx for the kind words. We did have an issue with the sheath that we're working on at this time. They were not as consistant as we'd liked.

It also caused us to establish standards and tests.

I wear one most of the time as well.

Sal - would a Titanium version be possible or would it be too pricy?

Hi Zardoz. A titanium version is possible to build, but frankly, we have not yet seen the type of cutting performance out of Titanium that we would require for a tool of this nature.

Thanks Sal - I've never worn a neck knife but am very interested, wanted it to be as light as possible. For those of you that have worn one a long time next to the skin, do they chafe / or do you not notice them after a while?

Prior to wearing my SPT I had worn a CRKT Bearclaw. Although the Bearclaw is quite functional (and costs less), the difference between the two is tremendous. You always knew the Bearclaw was around your neck due to its weight and shape. The SPT is sooo light you do not know it is there. I adjusted the length so that it lays between my pecks, which is both comfortable and keeps it from showing through thin jerseys. I presume that the cord covered chain is quite strong (just an assumption on my part). The chain did pinch my neck and chest hair, but once shortened shorter than the covering cord... it was great. Aside from shape and weight, the SPT workmanship is not second to any I own or have seen. My suggestion.... Go for it!

PS: I'd post a picture of me wearing it, but will hold off hoping that Simona will post one...

I'm currently wearing my collector's Micarta serrated SPOT. I've been wearing it since I got it (and replaced a PE Cricket in a Sastre sheath). It's quite comfortable to wear, but I think my biggest issue is the ball-chain. My skin can be irritated quite easily by non-precious metals/stainless-steel/titanium.

I would love to find a good source of full stainless-steel ball-chain, or perhaps one that's made of something a bit more expensive (like silver).

Forget the detalis of the neck knife, but I saw one that had paracord shell over the bead chain, except for a small section for breakaway saftey.

Just get some paracord, pull all but one strand out, tie the last strand to your bead chain, and pull through.
