Spyderco Paramilitary 52100 Carbon Fiber

For those of you with the Military, is it worth it?

I passed on the Millie since it's a bit large for my taste. But this one might push me over the edge.

Spyderco ParaMilitary 2 Sprint Run 52100 Carbon Fiber C81CFP52100

Coming soon, this knife is expected in fall 2017.

The Spyderco PM2 just got a whole lot better. Following the success of its big brother, Spyderco has decided to introduce the classic Paramilitary 2 with a 52100 carbon steel blade and peel pry carbon fiber handle.

Search on GPK site. Looks like there is also a serrated version as well.

That's huge news! Thank you for sharing! I bought and sold my 52100 Millie because as hard as I try the military just isn't for me. The same materials in a para 2? I'm all over that!

And a second partially serrated version as well? This will make many folks around here happy.

That serrated version has a really weird SKU. Usually they read:
Model number - handle material - edge configuration - handle color (if different than normal) - steel variation (if different than normal) - model generation (not always consistently applied, as the Para 2 sometimes ends in a "2" and sometimes a "P2" and other times omitted altogether).

C81PSCFP52100
C81 - Model number
PS - Usually means partially serrated, so perhaps this one is not fully serrated? Also, the blade edge configuration normally follows the handle material in the SKU.
CF - carbon fiber
P - ??? This is where the edge configuration would normally go (right after handle material), but since this is the serrated version this should read "S" if that was the case. So I'm not sure what this P means.
52100 - steel

Following Spyderco's usual SKU pattern, I would have expected the SKU to be: C81CFS52100

Interesting. Not to long ago GPK put up a bunch of pre orders like this and Taz mentioned they weren't all correct. It did t take long for a change to be made on their site after the Spyderco crew saw.

I would love a CF PM2 in 52100. The Military version is phenomenal. I didn't even like the Military platform until this knife and now I carry it every day. The steel seems incredibly high maintenance so, for a lot of people, I think it's a bad choice. For those who don't mind taking the extra steps necessary, you'll love it. 52100 is as close to a perfect steel as you may find except for the corrosion resistance issue. It takes a keen edge, has good edge retention, and is rather tough, too. I don't see it being too commonplace because of the corrosion that can take place if a user isn't careful.

GPK knows something we don't about this one. A new handle innovation perhaps?

So now we have two iterations of the carbon fiber PM2 on the radar screen: one with 52100 steel, and another with M4 steel.

I'm just getting familiar with M4 but know nothing about 52100. How do they compare?
