OT: Batteries

Postby fredswartz » Sat Jan 11, 2003 1:00 am

Decided to change a rambling post. Just realized that I use about 60 AA Alkaline cells per year and how much they cost locally. About $22 on the web vs. about $60 at Walmart. Does anyone use Ni-Cads and a charger and how many times can they be recharged? Do 1.2 Volt Ni-Cads work OK in most applications vs. 1.5V alkalines?

fredswartz - Personally I don't use rechargeable AA's for anything not calling for rechargeable batteries. Well, one thing, maybe - my wireless mouse. Get about two weeks use per charge, have been rotating four (two per cycle) for about a year now.

Are you a member of CPF? (CandlePowerForums) Sounds like a good question for their batteries forum.

check out the rechargable alkalines, yep alkalines 1.5 volts
I use lots of them, palm, palm modem, gameboy (my sons), gameboy light, remotes, they are cheaper per battery, don't have a memory, hold there charge longer when stored, they come charged and ready to use out of the package.
I think they are great.

I use rechargables on my radio. Plus, if I take it out in the woods, i have a small solar panel plugged in the radio to recharge the batteries!!!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Thanks for all the help. Ended up buying an Energizer Charger with 2 NMHA batteries plus a 4 pack of the same time of batteries. This will power my mouse and radio for ages. Total price was $27. Still need occasional batteries for quartz clocks, MAGLIGHT, Panasonic recorder, etc. etc. etc. The less intense items I can get by with buying locally.

I use "Pure Energy" rechargables in my radio(2 way radios)... only about $1.5 each, and thay last me about 6months before starting the downhill slide(about 8months and they no longer hold a charge for me)...

Energizer E2s Lithium(photo version) in my discman or Maglight... yah, anywhere from $2-3/batt, but I get a large amount of use from a set. Ends up that I change batts about as often as the bulb in my light.
