Number on the blade of the Spyderco Worker

#1

Post by ngsa »

Hello.

I just bought the Worker Sprint Run.

There is a number on the blade next to the Spider (100V) and I would like to know what it is.

Thank you for your explanations.

100 is a Spyderco Collectors Club number. Members of the club are assigned a number. They agree to purchase all, or a specific sub-set, of the new knives Spyderco introduces and the knives they receive are engraved with their number. The V at the end signifies that the Sprint Worker is a Variant of the original Worker, rather than a new model.

For example, when the Atlantic Salt first came out, Spyderco designated the black FRN serrated version as the "base" model, so the number on the one in the photo below is just 043, the other three versions were considered variants and have the same number, plus the V suffix. number. All were sent to the CC member whose number was 043.

Thanks for your reply.
Can you tell me if this number adds value to this knife?
If this is the case, I will confine its use to avoid damaging it.

I would not let the number deter you from enjoying the knife.

There are folks who strongly prefer their knives with as few markings on the blade as possible and avoid CC#'d pieces for that reason, so you're potential buyer pool might be smaller than it would with an non-CC knife. There are folks who see certain advantages to a numbered knife and might consider paying a slight premium to get one. For one thing, none of the counterfeiters number their knives, at least not so far, so the number is a darn good indicator that the knife is genuine. The number also makes it easy to positively identify a knife as yours if stolen and recovered. I'd say that the largest group is made up of folks who don't care one way or the other. They won't pay more for a number, but they won't pass on a knife just because it has one.

I solved the problem by buying a second Worker in order to preserve the other.
Thanks for your valuable information.

#100 is the CC number of http://acma.de/, one of two Spyderco retailers here in Germany.
