I have been fortunate so far and the only time I've reduced the collection is to make sure that those who don't always have access to or can afford Spydies can share our common appreciation of these gems. I guess I cull the collection to cultivate the friendship and passion we share here. <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="http://www.engr.uconn.edu/~mmartins/smi ... .gif"><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Due to work slowing down....right around Christmastime <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, I am in the process of selling some <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>s from my collection right now. It's tough letting go of any Spydie, but like you said, samo; you have to do what you have to do. Things are getting back on track now, so maybe I won't have to be letting go of them after all. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Most of what he had, was custom-collaborated knives. Said he sold most of them to carry on with life after being laid-off from work. The most inspiring moment came from this dude when he said : "Toys come and go, there's always another day..." Bent on getting started fresh all over again, I gave him one of my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>s as a token for his sound advice.. <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

In the last two years I parted with three knives:

JD Smith
Native II
Jess Horn Micarta

I loved them all, but it had to be done. I especially miss my Native II (sold on eBay to a nice gentleman) since it was one of my EDC's, but I am glad someone else is enjoying these knives. I plan to get another Native II this year to replace the other one. I love that knife.

I can also mention Carlos' parting with his Chinese Folder. I own his knife now, and it's another one of my EDC's. I am sure that it was hard for him to let this knife go, I remember he once mentioned that it was like an extension of his hand. It has become and extension of mine and I love it. Carlos, you can be assured that this knife is in good hands. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> *waving*

I grow very attached to my knives, and the one that I would never part with is my Mouse, of course, unless it was a life-threatening situation.

Finally, Java, my respects to you for your philosophy. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The only time I parted with any spydies was when I wanted to sacrifice something for a mission trip to the Amazon. I did not need the money but wanted to suffer by letting go of the following:

CF Dragonfly SE
CF Cricket SE

The CF Dragonfly says hello! I was just admiring it once more about an hour ago and it reminded me of you. It's in good hands, I will eternally thank you for this little beauty! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I keep my knife box close by so I can play with them every once in a while. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'm not posting this to get a pat on the back but I just gave up the "perfect" Chinook I got a couple of weeks ago along with a large Buck/Strider spearpoint. I happen to read a post from a fellow I know and in it he made reference to needing to find a couple of decent folders for some folks that work with him. He is a missionary in Nicaragua and an avid knife knut. There are a couple of locals who have been instrumental in starting several churches around the area. From what I read a broken kitchen knife was pretty much what they have to carry and work with. I am full of joy that these two guys will now have a Syderco Chinook and/or a Buck/Strider Spearpoint. It is better to give than receive!!

I traded this knife for a Blue Salsa. I did not carry the Ayoob much and used it even less. So I thought I would trade it for something I would use more.
I traded it for a NIB Blue Salsa. Don't get me wrong I was more then happy with the trade.
Just tonight after reading this thread it got me thinking about the Ayoob. It was the first Spydie I bought and I kind of miss it now.
Maybe if I buy the next Spydie I want (kiwi) I will forget about it <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

When I first starting collecting Spydies, I thought that I could never bear to part with any of them. After awhile, I realized that I had more than I could carry in a reasonable rotation, and some duplicates in purpose. So, since this revelation I have given two of my collection away, bought several more for friends as gifts and traded or sold at least a dozen.

I don't miss any of them in the least. I seem to take a great deal of delight in owning a particular model for awhile, then moving on to another. This trading idea is the best thing I've discovered yet! One could theoretically own a couple of new models a month, for only the price of postage.

Of course, I always take pictures of my "past alumnus" so that I can discuss them and recalll their grandeur.

I sold/traded a couple of ones (crickets/military/mouse/rescue/Q) to buy others (chinook/starmate/sebenza/standards) but at the moment I'm tempted to sell a couple to finance a purchase of a Tivoli Model 2 Audio system. But, I'll have to think this over really hard....
