I think I understand what a Forum Knife is and.....a Dodo would be TOUGH for me to resist! :spyder: :) Just not another black handle. Maybe bring her back in sage or turquoise or,,,, or..... or...... :)

My only problem with the Dodo is the tip is just too fragile for my hamfisted use. If I recall correctly, my user smurfbone Dodo has had the tip broken off and reground about six times. But it locks into my hand and goes looking for something to cut every time I pick it up.

Hey Greetings YAB and glad you chimed in on this one But that's strange that you would have trouble with the tip part of the Dodo blade>> and this is coming from a guy that isn't that much of a fan of S30V>> because I've had chipping problems and other problems with some of the other Spyders I've owned that had S30V blade steel. But I am glad to say that I've not had any problems with this one blue PE Dodo that I've had since the first year of the model's release.

However I am pretty careful with needle point tips like the one on the Dodo or even the one on my older BM Boguszewski Spike I've had for years and I know you are familiar with that one. Now I do believe that in the event you would chip or break a tip on the Dodo model that it wouldn't be all that difficult to restore it>> and thank GOD I've never yet been faced with that task.

But I'm just having a blast using my blue PE vintage Dodo model for an EDC and you all wouldn't believe all the compliments I'm getting with it. I've even had a lot of "non-knife" type people say how interesting it looks. I'm also amazed at how this thread has taken off. But for versatility and being down right handy. It's the first time in a long time I've seriously put it through a lot of demanding cutting jobs. Great feedback folks!!!

I'm late to the party, JD, but I am certainly on board with the genius design called the Dodo. IIRC, I believe this was Eric's first ever production design.

At present, I have the Sprint Orange (thanks to my Spyder Bother, Ted) and a NIB Blue Dodo (thanks to my biological bother, Dan). All-in-all, the Dodo is a fantastic LBK. I love everything about it and really wouldn't see much need for change. I'd LOVE to see a Sprint run in full SE Cruwear.

I'd be willing to bet my front teeth and molars that more than a few folks here would love to see this as well.

Well Spydernut I do agree with you in part because I would love a DODO model in one of the exotic supersteels. I was actually hoping for one maybe in M390 or CPM 110V. But in no way would I pass up one in Cruwear even though it would be my personal #1 pick. But your heart is certainly in the right place because I do believe that one of those Dodo models in one of the newer/better blade steels would truly be the "Cat's Meow" :cool:

I must admit that I seriously doubt if I'm going to make my blue PE Dodo a permanent fixture in my front pocket but I must admit that I'm still amazed at how well it handles most cutting jobs for such a small scale folder. Because I've always been a guy given to carrying some of the larger Spyders over the years as most of you are aware. There's only been one time in past week where I wish I had my M390 Military model instead but the Dodo>> which I must admit I thought I was going to miss my big folder much more than I have so far. The Dodo is performing incredibly well for the few days I've EDCed it. This would be an ideal EDC for the ladies as well as someone new to the use of knives. I'll go as far as say that the Dodo would make an excellent "Boy Scout" knife.

Let's put it this way>> it's much more of a folder than most of us have ever given it credit for IMO.

What would be the best steel, or the two or three best, for protecting the blade point from impacts?

The one Sal is hopefully going to make...Cruwear. Toughness is its strong point. And please gray G10. PE for sure and a few in SE would not be bad

But I will add that it seems Golden has a crapload of S110v and blue G10 laying around these days...so roll that bad boy out in that format and I would get one

I really like my Orange Dodo. What happened to the q-ball concept knife?

I would too... and that would seem to open the door for regular production. But I'd really rather have Cruwear or 52100 for tip protection and on general principles.

Maybe 52100 would be possible. But I'm guessing it has to be ordered in sheets of the correct thickness for the blade. Millie = 3.7mm, Dodo = 3.0mm

Now Cruwear wouldn't be my first pick but on the other hand I would still snag one if they would finally make another one in Spyderedge. Because the original Spyderedge Dodo was in my humble opinion the very best short bladed serrated knife that Spyderco ever made. For a long time I've wanted to know how well XHP would perform in full Spyderedge and I believe the Dodo model would be a great knife to test it out with.

Again the Dodo has been a surprisingly good EDC>> I have EDCed it once before but not to the extent I have done it this time. I've been very pleasantly surprised at how great of a performer it has been this past few days. For states and cities with blade length laws that won't let you carry a full sized folder the Dodo may be a great solution to an annoying legal problem.
