Skaaphaas wrote:Wow. What a thread. And what a knife.
I have this idea in my head that I will pitch to people in the industry, of perhaps using this knife as a fundraiser, with the profits going straight into a fund to assist with the efforts against rhino poaching.
Rhino poaching is a huge problem here in South Africa, but the the anti-poaching units are seeing the results of their hard work. The problem is that it costs money, and they are reliant on donations to make it all tick over.
I think this knife may be just the ticket for such a fundraiser.
That is a really cool idea, Skaaphaas. Of course, it would be up to Sal and Eric to decide, but I think the concept has a lot of merit. I am saddened to hear about the rhino poaching, though. Such beautiful creatures. We have a similar issue with poachers here in Indiana--although their primary target is whitetail deer antlers (and is on a much smaller scale than the rhino issue, I'm sure). Our local DNR have done their best to curb the illegal taking of deer, but it's an ongoing battle.
Thanks for sharing your idea.
Take care,
Michael

Michael, I am still waiting for your knife. The price point is nice and it is my most wanted small knife from Spyderco this year. You know, when you publish a book, you get a certain number of copies for yourself to sell. Maybe they should do that with knife designers, too.

Thank you, Dan. :) I keep waiting patiently for Ramzar's Upcoming and Released Models thread to pop up with news on the Rhino. Man, I hope it's soon! The anticipation is causing me some sleep deprivation, lol.

Hey Roman,
That is a pretty cool idea. In the case of the Rhino, though, I'm not sure if folks would actually want me defacing their Spyderco knife boxes with my chicken-scratch signature. :D :p

I certainly hope that info is wrong but I have no reason to doubt what that person said. What reason would someone have to make something like that up.

Hmm... This is interesting news indeed. For what it's worth, I haven't heard anything official from Spyderco regarding a delay with production on the Rhino. But, just to be on the safe side, I will plan on contacting them early next week to seek verification.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I'd be honored to do that, BTG. It will probably ding the re-sale value, but I'd be willing to sign it for you. :)
