Durability of dyed G10?
Durability of dyed G10?
In preparation for the possibility of getting an M4 PM2, I'm wondering how well the color sticks when G10 handle scales are treated with RIT dye?

Re: Durability of dyed G10?
Rit dyed this G10 Dragonfly in 2009. I think it's held up well and developed a bit of character.
Re: Durability of dyed G10?
Depending on the base color I think it has the potential to develop a really cool wear pattern. That Dragonfly is going to look better and better as it ages.

Interesting to see how it is after those years :)

Re: Durability of dyed G10?
I haven't detected any wear on mine. It gets carried about 3 days a month.

David, just curious what color you have in mind? I'm assuming this will be applied to the jade G10 version?
Going back to Caly.
Re: Durability of dyed G10?
I RIT-dyed my G10 D-fly, G10 Dodo and FRN Delica in 2009, (had to check the records). Still going strong.

Yes. That is, if it ever drops and if I'm vigilant/lucky enough to get one...SpeedHoles wrote:David, just curious what color you have in mind? I'm assuming this will be applied to the jade G10 version?
I haven't decided on a color (or really even if I would dye it at all), but suspect that a dark shade of gray or green would be my first choices.

I dyed a grey g10 para 2 red and it held up okay over time. I dyed it again after a while and it held up better. Regret selling that knife... you can find pics on this thread:

A question for those of you who have taken down a PM2; how tight are the scales on the lanyard eyelet? do they come off without damage and go back on without a major struggle?

It's definitely annoying but I've completely disassembled para 2s over 10 times and have never had an issue with damageawa54 wrote:A question for those of you who have taken down a PM2; how tight are the scales on the lanyard eyelet? do they come off without damage and go back on without a major struggle?

(you can do the RIT treatment on the S30V PM2 without disassembling it)awa54 wrote:A question for those of you who have taken down a PM2; how tight are the scales on the lanyard eyelet? do they come off without damage and go back on without a major struggle?

Did you end up getting one?
I'd like to try to dye one orange but I don't know what to do.
Should I use orange dye or red? (Red and yellow make orange)
I probably should get some Jade G10 blanks and try it first.
Re: Durability of dyed G10?
I did manage to snag one, but for now I think it will stay natural G10... if the color grows on me it may not get a dye job, if OTOH it never clicks, then gray or blue RIT is the plan.
I'm not the one to ask on color choices... my only experience with RIT is using it on cloth.
