Spyderco 2016 Production Prototype – Robin 2 Titanium
Another cool Byrd to get a nice upgrade to full titanium handle scales. It might not come off in these pictures, but the production quality is very impressive. If you like Byrds, this is a very nice compact EDC option.

Spyderco 2016 Production Prototype – Reinhold Rhino
The Reinhold Rhino is a compact little folder with a wicked cool bowie-style blade. I could (just) get a full four-finger grip on the compact handle. The ergos were great though. The G-10 grip was finished rather smooth, it appeared sanded down but the surface still offered some grip. The handle scale that also holds the clip, features a type of ‘subhilt’ feature. It really helps to lock the knife in your hand, but at the same time I kept reaching for a linerlock that wasn’t there when I wanted to close this knife. Still, I liked the Reinhold Rhino a lot.

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Peter Carey Rubicon G10/CF
The Rubicon has gotten a diet, this G10/CF version is definitely more pocket-friendly than the first version. The handle scales are flat and the knife’s handle has been ‘dehorned’ to make it much easier to carry and draw. The handle’s surface still offered some grip, kind of like a smoother peelply finish. Still, I’d like to see the jimping on the spine to be a bit sharper, but it’s the same finish as was used on the original Spyderco Rubicon.

I completely agree, man! I'll definitely keep an eye out for the Rhino. And with a comp lock too? Gimme! :pStudey wrote:Ok, the Rhino looks pretty slick!

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
THANK YOU WOUTER!! :D
Boy, that Reinhold Rhino just made my day! I got a little giggly looking at it. I love the compression lock and overjoyed that many new models will be sporting it! Now I'm just trying to get past the fact the name of my recent former boss is Reinhold! :)
I assume it's not going to come standard with a Phillip's head pivot screw, right?!

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
Wow, I like the Rhino but I'm curious about exactly how much liner it has...were the clip screws going into liner or just G10? From the lock area it definitely has two liners, but from looking at the thumb cutout you can't see any liners on the right side. I'll have to hold that one before I make a call.
Really like the new Rubicon, especially the Ti liners.
I'd also love to see a Ti Ladybug with a screw pivot and a decent steel. That would be enough for me to deal with the weight over my FRN model.

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
The new Rubicon G-10/CF laminate is a much better and less expensive EDC. Thinner and the sharp edges on the backspacer gone.
What's the blade steel on the Reinhold Rhino and where will it be made?
ATR S30V G-10 is a must to join my SS one from 2006!
Due to the white background some detail in some pictures get whited-out!

Finally something completely new.
Rhino looks like a baby Chinook. Not my cup of tea, but interesting.
Upgraded Rubicon is now very EDC friendly

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
THANK YOU Spyderco for including a Peter Carey knife! Nice job fixing the thickness and the "pokeyness" that was so often complained about. I think my original Rubicon is beautiful but this new one looks like a better EDC. I can't wait! More Carey models would be great too...fingers crossed.

I'm liking the utilitarian Rubicon, I'll certainly be getting one. I must admit though that it really looks dull compared to the original. No spikes, no custom clip, no orange around the pivot. I know that's the point though.
So that's the cf laminate over g10 then right? Curious about the price on this one.

Little Pocket Bowie
Hi Folks!
The Rhino looks very nice. Kind of little pocket bowie. :)
But it definitely needs a small wire clip. In the 4th pic it's pretty obvious the clip clearly gets in the way of the lock...

Re: Amsterdam Meet 2016 Report of Spyderco Prototypes
At first glance, I was excited to see the Rhino. Baby Chinook all the way. Second look, I'm like "what the heck!" Why, oh why is that handle ruined? I suppose the designer has never ever met a lefty... why even bother with the LH clip screw holes...
I really hope that the product version(?) will get some refinement, and I'll buy one.
