Good knife to carry in a bra?
Good knife to carry in a bra?
Hi,
My wife have used her SS Harpy VG-10 to companion her when running.
Apparently, sweat is not that great for the inner of the knife (duh), the Harpy is now more or less impossible for her to operate single handed.
Off course I will try to get the Harpy back to top notch action with some corrosive dilution, but I am looking for something more suited to wear in her bra.
The SALT series looks like they would be the answer here, but since the VG-10 blade in her Harpy looks perfect I cannot really see the point in a H1 blade. Is the mechanics in the Salt series better protected too, or is it "only" the blade?
Thankful for all input.

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
The whole knife is rustproof. If she liked the harpy, get her a Tasman Salt, same hawkbill blade.
Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
I'll second the Tasman salt.
Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
Going to need some pics for proper assessment. :D
Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
Poor form, it's his wife. The Dragonfly 2 Salt would also work well, being smaller and lighter, though the Tasman is already going to be lighter than the harpy.jalcon wrote:Going to need some pics for proper assessment. :D
Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
Female opinion here: Dragonfly Salt. Also might consider clipping the knife onto her waistband. The dragonfly is so lightweight it won't weigh her clothes down like a SS Harpy. Also the FRN on the dragonfly is very grippy and stays put when clipped.

It was a joke . Ease up there Captain crunch. No offense meant, and I'm sure the OP is intelligent enough to pick that up. No harm meant.Studey wrote:Poor form, it's his wife. Tasman Salt. Essentially a lighter Harpy that is completely rust proof. H1 performs very well with serrations.

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
The best would be a Keltec P3AT with a Clipdraw. I know this works and is only 8 oz or so. Otherwise I would opt for the Dragonfly with serrated blade.
What would be real nice is if Spyderco would bring out a knife for runners that was linerless FRN, and really slim, like a stiletto, only with a thumb hole. It should have a 3 inch blade and weigh around 2 oz.

You could also wait on the new Snap-it. Salt blade, with a shackle that she can use to clip it to her person somewhere a bit more securely.

Thanks for all comments!
Great to know that the whole knife is rust protected for the Salt series.
Since she appreciate the evil look on the Harpy i think that the Tasman will be a better choice than the Dragonfly.
I chuckled some at the joke, I should have been somewhat a hypocrite to use the word "bra" in the title as a click bait only to frown upon the obvious response. But thank you for your time and concern, Studey! :-)

What about the ARK?
that's purpose built for the stated use.
As far as corrosion removal on the original knife, see if your local jeweler will ultrasonic clean and steam blast the knife for you, that ought to shake out any rust from the mechanism, though it may take a while in the ultrasonic machine if it's really bad.

Great to hear that a ultrasonic bath might help. I've been thinking about buying one of those for some time now. Maybe this is a good time.
I think that the ARK will look slightly too much commando for my wife if you know what I mean.

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
The Tasman should be great in that role. I jog with a Delica IWB and it is definitely light enough. She should be pleased with the weight reduction going to the Tasman from the Harpy, especially if she is indeed carrying it in her bra.

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
My oldest daughter keeps a Delica in her pocket, and a VG10 Dragonfly on each side of her bra. I know some people sweat more than others, but my daughter has not had any issues with rust even when she was working as a pastry chef in a hot kitchen. (Certainly the salt version would be excellent for preventing any corrosion from sweat.) Of course my daughter's knives get laundered every once in awhile when she forgets to un-clip them when she changes clothes...
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
The thing about Salt knives is not just the H1 blade, but the fact that there are no liners to rust either. Your Harpy's VG10 blade didn't rust, but the liners still did, which compromised the pivot action. This won't happen on a Salt knife. I've had mine in the ocean for hours at a time and they open just like they did when new.CaptainT wrote:Hi,

I can tell you this much, boob sweat is dangerous stuff. And I say that both to be funny and to state a fact LOL. My wife once killed a cell phone by sticking it in her bra on a hot day because she was wearing a dress and didn't have any pockets. Sweat is loaded with salt and all kinds of rust promoting bad stuff, so if she prefers to carry in that location, I would highly recommend a Salt knife.

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
Salt knife to be sure. I'd second the recommendations for the D'fly2 Salt, and Salt 1. Heck, you might also try the ARK. It was meant to be warn around the neck, but other carry options can be made.
Sweat is bad stuff on knives, as several folks (including David) mentioned. My wife edc's a Sig P238 with a stainless slide. I purchased the stainless variation for this very reason.
P.S. I may have snickered a little when I read "boob sweat" in David's post. Lol

Re: Good knife to carry in a bra?
This question got me thinkin'. If I start wearing a bra, then I could carry a lot more knives, guns or whatever. Just like strapping on a couple of extra pockets. :D
