Re: Knife & Watch
I’ve got that same watch. Gotta love the atomic solar GShocks. Keeps perfect time and never needs the battery replaced. It’s a perfect hard use watch.

I think it's perfect as well. I've also got a stainless band version I wear for dress.

Ha! Me too. The MTGM-900. It virtually the same watch but with the linked band. I like that the features are the same on both...makes it easy to switch back and forth without needing to learn what the different buttons do.
You clearly have good taste...
Re: Knife & Watch
Had mine off today to wash the band ($1k watch, $20 band lol) and figured I'd get artsy fartsy and take some pics since this thread has been bumped a lot lately.
Can't be out taking pics of a titanium watch without throwing in a titanium knife with it

The watch is a high quality clone (everything but the Rolex price), but the chef is the 2nd gen real deal

Re: Knife & Watch
This thread makes me feel like such an underachiever. Like most men with blood in their veins, I've always had Rolex envy and a lust for luxury watches. For 30 years, a plain Casio woke me in the morning and rode my wrist all day at a job that produced a meager living, abandoning watches completely in 2000 for cell phone time.
Now I fear that I've ventured onto a slimey slope and discovered homage watches. It all started with an episode of Jesse Stone with Tom Selleck in a conspicuous moment of product placement studying a Rolex GMT. The red and blue "Pepsi" bezel drove me to Google. $10,000 ! Only $9,900 out of my price range. Months later on Magnum PI, Magnum flashes a GMT. (This Magnum is no Tom Selleck but Perdita Weeks as Higgins saves the series.) This time when I Google I find a $58 Invicta "homage" watch.
Neither an exact copy of a Rolex GMT as it lacks the fourth hand and 24 hour bezel and not a real dive watch like the Seiko in this thread as it sports an unrealistic 30 minute red zone from 15 to 45 minutes, but affordable fun nonetheless. What Spyderco would a diver carry that compliments the stainless steel Invicta? A vintage Mariner is my pick for my humble contribution to this beautiful thread.

Re: Knife & Watch
Would you guys carry a “homage” or “clone” knife? A fake is a fake no matter what you call it. There are plenty of high quality brands with attainable price points that have their own design and heritage. Look to Seiko or Hamilton for a couple of places to start in the world of collecting mechanical watches and please don’t support the fakes/clones.

Re: Knife & Watch
Where does that leave enthusiasts who bought a Spyderco Peter Carey Rubicon, a Terzuola Starmate or Double Bevel, a Centofante Memory, a Bill Moran drop point, a Bob Lum Large Lum, an Ed Schempp Bowie or EuroEdge, a Gayle Bradley 2 or Air, a Rheinhold Rhino or a Brad Southard Positron. These are only the ones I've been able to purchase and enjoy myself because I cannot afford authentic ones. Thank you, Spyderco.
Of course, these are fully authorized collaborative efforts or tributes, but are we the lesser for it because we bought, dare say I, an homage made in Taiwan instead of the genuine article? Should we shun these less costly versions? Should we limit ourselves to Spyderco original designs made in Golden, Colorado?
Here is a video of Five Reasons NOT to Buy an Homage Watch that I found interesting.
When I get me some real money, I'm getting a Breitling.

I think you’re right on the money.
One of those (a collab) involves the original designer and respects intellectual property and one does not.

Rolex and Breitling make very nice products buy the cost of entry is pretty high.
There are some companies that are using an internet based point of sale that are making good mechanical watches for a lot less. These are companies like stowa and mkii. They have a big following. You can read about them on the watchuseek forums.
Maybe one of those is a better fit.
Personally, I big fan of the German makers and like Nomos and meistersinger.
