FIX THIS WEBSITE!!!!

#1

Post by AllenETreat »

To Who(m) this may concern :

I am aghast a the dinosauric, desultory

response time(s) when I try to "enter"

or "exit" a "thread"<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I'm also KITDFOH$

when it comes to "technical

parochialistic terminology" such as

"Internal server error 500" that, for

some strange reason(s) allow for

"multiple" post(s). At what We Spydie

people pay for these said "widgets"

We could at least have a "functioning"

"website"!

Tends to happen when you consider smilies to be the 27th letter of the alphabet. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

It's kind of depressing<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> when you're

the only one to respond to your own

"thread" ; It's EVEN MORE DEPRESSING

WAITING 42min to "enter" the "general

discussion forum" when I can get onto

Bladeforums.com in 10-15seconds!

Again, I reiterate, FIX THIS WEBSITE!

Heck I thought it was just me. But it loads real slow and tonight I had to open and close it three different times, before it came up.

I tried other sites and they came up. My comp. is slow with just a dial-up modem but other sites seem to come up quicker.
Also I have a microsoft/explorer problem so I don'tknow if this adds to the problem....

Allen,

One thing I have found is that when the site is loading slow, click on the pull down menu at the top and re-select "Show all topics from last day' and then click "Go".
This seems to help the site load a little quicker.

I think it has something to do with connection speed.

When I had a 56k modem it was ok for a while, but then became slower and slower, with a lot of multiple double posts.
Then I switched to ISDN and the problem was eased somewhat, but still occassionally had the 5 minute startup and the occassional double post.
Then my area got Broadband (which was actually cheeper than ISDN), and now this site is just as fast as any other and I never get a double tap.

I know this doesn't help you, but it does point to the problem.
And just so I don't come accross as "I'm alright Jack, screw you", you're roght, other sites don't have this problem, so this one shouldn't.

42 MINUTES!?
I use dialup, and it does not take that long
to download the entire year of headers!

There must be something wrong with your ISP or your little section of the internet.

Just a random image that is less than 400 by 400 pixels from my archive to test image posting.

I'm using a laptop with a dial-up modem that runs at 45K on a good day. On the same good day the website will load in 10 seconds and on a bad day it may take 30 seconds. I find that Knifeforums takes about the same amount of time to fully load.

heh... as a kindof geek i couldnt resist but comment on this subject <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. an error message 500 means the server is too busy. probably it'D be a good idea to upscale the www/forum facilities of spyderco.com (first software-wise and if that doesnt help hardware-wise). perhaps splitting the entire board into more smaller "subboards" would slightly ease the pain.
that'd be my first guess since i do not have a deeper insight into spyderco.com.

I rarely have load problems (partial T-1) running XP on 1.2 Ghz processor w/ 256 Mg of RAM. When I do encounter a problem I reload (F5 or click the link again).

I experience no noticeable difference between this and the BF site. But this could be because of my computer's power or the connection, or both.

Just a side comment for AET:
Is there a good reason for all of the parenthetical pluralities/subject-objectivities, frequent ALL CAPS, and excessive use of quotation marks? I find your posts difficult to follow at times.

Bruceter -

Took your advice & viola! No more

"pukin' pumpkin's"( see IMAGE1 above!)

mac_heath -

I find my post(s) difficult to follow

at time(s) myself! The "upper case" is

because I have no BOLD FACE fonts on

my low budget WebTV! As for the

parenthesisation ( ) that's a "throw

back" from my "lawbendin'" days with

a VERY GOOD attorney!<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> You'll get the

"hang" of me yet! Java, I believe, has!

Just noticed that the website loaded faster today. Looks like someone was listening as there are only a couple of days posts to load instead of a week or more previously.

I also haven't had any problems since I got DSL.

IMO, whatever software that supports this forum is relatively low tech when compared to some others; layout, searching, pictures especially, etc... But I'm not complaining <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> the info is the same, and I'm not paying for it. I think the $$ issue is what we have to remember.

AllenETreat:
I'm with you. I have a dial up and it must take 15 seconds for the pages to load on this forum for me.
I don't have this problem with Bladeforums.com or any other part of Spyderco.com, just these forum pages!
This is why I don't spend much time here.
Maybe we just expect to much after being on BF <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
