hi, when i sharpen my military model it seems to take a lot longer the some of my other knives. i am using a lanskey system and go all the way to the 1000 grit extra fine stone. it holdes the edge great but takes a lot more time to sharpen. thanks, thegreg

The vanadium content of the blade makes it "harder" to sharpen. But the end result is well worth it.

Hey Thegreg. If it holds an edge well, it does so because it refuses to "give up" molecules of steel. Sharpening is the same. Dulling and sharpening are the same to the steel. the only difference is that in sharpening, you are "dulling" the steel away from the bevel creating the edge.

IMO There is no such thing as a steel that sharpens easily, but holds an edge well. If the bevel is very thin, it will "sharpen easily", but that is the result of the thin bevel and not the steel.
