Spyderco Shaman News and Gossip Thread

Post by Johnnie1801 »

Thought I'd start a thread to gather info on this knife. What we know so far is that it's a larger Native with a compression lock. So my questions for you are, what blade steel would you like to see and will this knife surpass the popularity of the PM2? :)

FRN handles???
I love the CTS on my Domino! Easy to put a screaming edge on it and it hold it nicely.
Any pics of this one??

I handled one at Blade this year. It was great!
I wouldn't mind if Spyderco went with a wire clip instead of the standard.

I don't think so. I beleive at the last meet up it was still considered classified.

I would take FRN handles with Cruwear or M4 blade but I think it's quite likely to at least get started with G10 handles and maybe a s35V blade like the Native.
I think I'll take it any which way.. ;)

Any hunches as to if Natives big brother will also be a Golden produced knife? If so, maybe it'll get added to the S110V roster...

As of recently I just saw news of that 52100 Millie, so hey, let's get some of that into a Compression lock knife, too, might as well make it the Shaman! :D

For those that have handled it; how much "larger" than the Native is it?
Same proportions, and continous arch to the spine??
Since it was a Comp-lock, I'm assuming it was "flow through" slab style construction? Or a big solid backspacer behind the Comp-lock?
Going back to Caly.

I held the Shaman at BLADE last year. I remember I was very impressed with how well the handle fit my hand and I knew it was definitely something I would buy. I'd like to see it offered in S35VN or S30V. Of course I'd be very pleased with S90V or M4 too. ;)

I'd assume it will follow suit with the native now so g10/frn and s30v or s35vn. When I think of shaman I think of native americans, they lived off of the land and used what the land gave them so I'd like to see it with some kind of "natural" colored g10 and then some kind of carbon steel like m4. By natural I don't mean the jade g10 I'm thinking like earth tones.

^ I could definitely dig on a theme like that.
Maybe a stonewash as well... and some natural linen micarta. :)

Is it in a similar size category as the Manix 2? Maybe a bit bigger and heftier like a Superleaf?

Hmm. It seems like it would be similar to the Manix 2 if I remember correctly, but not quite as long. It didn't strike me as being much heftier either, which was nice (and surprising). It did seem plenty stout for its size, though. Roman will love this thing. ;)

^ Sounds promising! In my head I'd always hear "the bigger Native", and start imagining some ungainly giant scale model.

The Shaman has become a 'True Mythical Legend' among we Spyderco fans. :spyder:

Hopefuly some parts of the myths will be reality. Somehow. Someday. :D

I've seen an old prototype in the case at the SFO, and it's about the right size for a "larger Native" IMO. Other than that, I don't know much about it.

Does anybody know for sure if will be FRN? Even if so, it might follow the usual route of coming out in G-10 first, before the FRN mold is completed.

I have similar feelings about the wire clip and PM2 (but still have some PM2's). By the way some dealers still have a few Superleafs if you found that one appealing (compression lock & wire clip).
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

YES!
Never mind all those PM2 sprints anymore now, well apart from the M4 off course and the Cruwear and probably some.. ;)

This in that natural/earth colored theme with 52100 steel would be one of the coolest sprints/forumknives ever. :D

Any which way great to hear it's in queue!
