A good day for used knives
A good day for used knives
I stop in to read the forums, but haven't participated much in some time. Life is busy with a young family and while I still use my knives many times on a daily basis, I don't take much time for the knife "hobby" lately. The Mule Team project keeps me involved (even if I am behind on getting hardness values for the recent ones) and it was a distinct honor to talk with Sal at SHOT and have him handle a Mule that I'd made the handle and sheath for.
Anyway, I was recently contacted by an old forum friend that was looking to part with some of his used knives. He's someone that I haven't seen on the forums in quite some time myself, but is well known to most of the older members around here. We'd dealt with each other in the past and he offered me a deal I couldn't refuse. So without further ado, I wanted to share some of the neat treasures that I received yesterday.
Instead of naming them off, I will turn this into a contest. I'll give one of my leather Mule Team sheaths to the each of the first two members that can correctly name all of them, judged by timestamp on the post. I just wanted to give a little back to a forum that has been very good to me and is a great place to hang out and talk about knives. ETA, I'll also amend my rules and give one more to a random correct answer. I don't want to alienate those that can't get on in the middle of the day.

Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for two of those knives actually, so it's really random that you posted them here.

Re: A good day for used knives
The subdued clip on the jd sprint looks so much better than the typical high polished ones. More!!!
Re: A good day for used knives
In retrospect, that is a really crappy picture! I didn't do that on purpose, but it does make it a bit more challenging.
There are 2 knives that are stumping people based on the answers above. I'll give hints on both tomorrow at the 24 hr mark.

Which ones? There's a good mix in there.tvenuto wrote:Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for two of those knives actually, so it's really random that you posted them here.
I couldn't agree more. The other I'd like to see more of are the black clips with the gold "bug" that came standard on the Calypso and Calpyso Jr micarta series.Cheddarnut wrote:The subdued clip on the jd sprint looks so much better than the typical high polished ones. More!!!

Re: A good day for used knives
I've been keeping an eye out for both the SE waved Delica and the PE Atlantic Salt. My friend sails and he mentioned a need for a utility boating knife that had a blunt tip, but he wanted a plain edge blade and something relatively inexpensive in case he loses it. My two candidates were the Atlantic salt or the sheepsfoot enuff, which are both in rustprooff H1. However the Enuff has never been offered in PE, and the Atlantic salt is discontinued in that version. As far as the SE waved delica, well I just have a love for FRN delica 4s and am always looking to add the odd model that I don't have. :DJLS wrote:Which ones? Re: A good day for used knives
We have our first winner, but I'm not going to tell who so people can't just copy. The other two most recent answers are just one detail away each.
Now for the clues.
The Military is a sprint and I need you to list the steel.
One Mule is a U.S. steel and the other is a Japanese steel.
I'll run this until Monday night and then pick the random winner and PM the winners for addresses. Thanks for playing!

Re: A good day for used knives
This is really an interesting thread concerning used Spyders. Because in the past 2 to 3 years I'm finding myself much more geared to having a bigger USERS arsenal than having several "safe queens". I find it extremely interesting to compare all the different models and different blade steels by putting them through actual Hard Use.
After all I believe that a knife that is a good USER is ultimately going to be more appreciated from a collector standpoint rather than a knife with a weird/unusual design or a novelty knife. Anymore if it doesn't have USER potential I really just don't want it.
Also a good USER has endurance and will be appreciated several years down the road.
