Re-Sprinting the Super Blue Caly 3/3.5?

#1

Post by Johnnie1801 »

Just wondering if it would be possible to do another run of these knives? They hardly ever come up on the secondary market and when they do they are pretty expensive.

I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who would jump at the chance to pick up a sb Caly and sales wouldn't be a problem :D

Do sprints get repeated? Or is it just exclusives that can be repeated if the dealer/distributor requests it?

Sprints are not repeated (as far as I know anyway) but dealer exclusives can and have been run multiple times.

I think they usually like to do something different with each sprint. Although I do believe there are cases where a sprint knife was released in two separate runs (at least according to Spydiewiki). I'm not sure if there's a practical difference between releasing a sprint in two runs, and deciding to do another run, but I do think it would be out of the ordinary.

It would be easy as pie to just do a different color G10, though.

Sprints do not get repeated. However, if there were a change in scale material or color, it would probably not be treated as a repeat from Spyderco's perspective.

I think of all the sprints and exclusives Spyderco has ever released, this is the one I would like to see return the most.

Might as well change the color of the G-10 to make it a different sprint.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but I hardly ever see used ones for sale. The folks who own these knives must really like these Caly's and never want to part with them. Regardless of handle color, I'd buy them and I'm sure there are a bunch of you here who already have one that would buy another. Sales wise, doing another sprint would be a home run for Spyderco :)

I think that the super blue has been the only sprint involving the Caly 3/3.5. Even as I handle other knives I keep comparing everything to the caly, one of the best ergo blades ever made. How about a LW Caly 3 with a lock back in SB?

The Caly 3 got a Damascus sprint.

I totally didn't realize this one was in such high demand. Makes me glad I snagged one on impulse a while back. :)

I'll gladly take almost any combination of materials in a Caly 3. It's still my go to model most of the time.

My wish would be for a Caly 3 & 3.5 with orange
scales and a solid blade in HAP40 (no cladding).
Please!

They would need to make a minor change so it couldn't be confused with the first run. The only sprint I can recall being repeated was the sabre ground pink D4. First run had black clips, 2nd run polished. That said, there is no reason they couldn't make a minor change and put them back into production if the demand is there.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

A repeat of something similar could sell out fast given the rather demand you see on various forums for these.

My reccomendation would be for a slightly dressier re-run of this design. Perhaps polished dark grey or dark green g10?

I know what I would love, a redo of the sprint, with a hourglass clip, in place of the wire..subtle enough, but very different.
