Pacific Salt issue.......from a total noob!

#1

Post by palonej »

Hello!
New member and Spidey owner.
Long story short.....wanted a Spidey real bad for quite some time.
Search engine took me to the Spidey on line store. Sure I could've gotten it cheaper somewhere else......but the noob in me said go to the Spidey on line store.
Got the knife last Thursday. Out of the box the only way to open it was with 2 hands.
VERY tight!
After a few days of opening and closing....a LOT.....it's possible to open with 1 hand, but still very tight.
Got black blade and the finish has completely rubbed off of the bottom of blade and 2 spots higher up on the blade.
Called and e mailed a few times got no responses.
Is this normal??
Sorry for loooong winded post!
Thanks
Joe

Midlocks, especially larger ones, tend to be tight compared to many other locks. Still, it should never require two hands to open one.

Circular rub marks on the sides of the blade tang, centered on the pivot, are normal. Rub marks elsewhere on the sides of the blade would not be.

Spyderco is a small company. Phone is only manned during business hours. I've never had much luck emailing them, but others have.

Sorry this was your first experience. They might be closed today for the holiday. If try again tomorrow. Also my guess is sal or kristi will chime in here and get you taken care of.

Welcome aboard, palonej. :)

As the others mentioned, Spyderco's Warranty and Repair Department will likely be your best option. I would direct all correspondence to Charlynn's attention in W&R. She and the Dept. will take good care of you. (Note: I've been sending my Spydies to their warranty and repair department for over ten years without any issues).

FWIW, they very well may have the day off today for the 4th of July holiday. Be patient, if you can. They will respond. :)

Hi Joe,

Welcome to our forum and sorry for your difficulties. We're in vacation schedules so some departments are short.

I will alert customer service to your situation.

Glad to hear that! :)

Just remember, Joe, that these Spyderco knives are highly addictive. Highly. :D After you get an Endura, it's all "down"hill from there! :p

Excellent and superb customer service. All I ask is that, if you so desire, please don't give up on the Pacific Salt model. Many of us here have one and they are excellent, well-made, and a great knife, along with other Spyderco knives. Do other Pacific Salt owners and users here agree with me?

My favorite is the original satin finish serrated edge version.

Ugh!!! Just what I need......custom pool cues, in a tourney right now, high end German and English air rifles and now a little 8 leg bug bit me!

Update!!
Rachel Jurecki just e mailed me to let me know that I can choose any Pacific Salt to replace the 1 I got!!
I'm thinking yellow with the Spidey edge would do nicely!!
Sent the offending character back this afternoon.
Awesome customer service!!
The spider bit deep!
Thanks for the help guys!
Not giving up on Salty!!

Just keep in mind that the black blade versions are more expensive, so trading in your knife for a non-black blade version is a small step down value-wise. Not a big step, but I thought it worth mentioning.

He's not kidding. I've always bought and used high end production knives (mainly just B****ma** knives) but once I bought my first spydie about 5-6 weeks ago it was all over...in about a month I've bought 14 different spydies and have a list of wants at least that long and growing!
