Another Kerambit?

Just saw this at yamashita.org (what does "yamashita" means, BTW? - Java, are you there? )

It's made by Warren Thomas. I wonder if Spyderco knows about this...

Interesting! Many custom makers use the Spyderco hole. Reputable ones obtain Spyderco's blessing, and credit Spyderco. Some make the opening hole just a little differently, in order not to infringe upon Spyderco's trademark.

Thats actually not a bad idea how they did that one... just hope it's dual scales, not just one sided like the the CRKT KISS line.

The makers who use the -hole, usually pay royalties to Sal... some priviledged ones recieved his blessing to use it a couple times and drop it.

Dialex,

Sweet looking kerambit!! Yamashita can mean about 4 things depending on the Kanje used. My preferred use here is a place for adventurers. This word begins using the 4-stroke Kanje for mountain (yama). Kind of poetic. It can also mean a place to buy wood or maybe even a trickster or charleton. (Buyer beware if it's the latter!)
Nice find, Dialex!!

Yamashita is a Japanese family name. It literaly means "bottom of the mountain" or "below the mountain." More loosely translated, it's the foot of the mountain (English idiom).

Dialex,

Hadn't had me espresso yet and dropped a Kanje. Mac_Heath is correct. The second Kanje is the 3-stroke ka, ge, shita, shimo, or moto whose meaning is base, lower, or under. I also confused my yama with boku for tree or wood. If you're ever in Yokohama, stop by Yamashitakouen a beautiful park at the foot (naturally) of the hills on the south side offering a beautiful view of the harbor.

Yikes what a morning! Good catch Mac!

Thank you all. To be honest, this Kerambit didn't hit the spot, but I was intrigued by that round hole in the blade.

I wish Spyderco would make something similar.

Dialex,

Just jumping around doing a bit of research this morning. Did not see any pricing or description on the Yamashita.org site for the Warren Thomas kerambit. He had several neck knives including a neck tanto that looked sharp until I ran the yen-to-dollar conversion. Most Thomas blades were well over $300 plus. His price on the Mini Commander seemed steep too. Y31,000 is roughly 259.00 USD. Curious about the Thomas blades, I checked to see how much they ran stateside. Warren is a custom builder (a little ways over in Passadena TX, who uses exotic materials for blades; Titanium, carbon fiber, etc.. He has a web site where you can contact him for his work and SOF knives carries his line. They ARE pricey and SOF also had this disclaimer to add for ordering:

quote:
Warren Thomas knives are available to Law Enforcement and Military with a copy of your ID card (badge and credentials). The order must be placed on your office letterhead with a verifiable telephone number to your office. Warren Thomas knives can be had in 100% Titanium and a combination Titanium and Carbon Fiber. One model is also available in a 100% Carbon Fiber format. Check with us for availability and pricing.

I assume the exclusionary disclaimer is there because Ti has a low magnetic signature and a total CF folder is practically invisible to most current detector technologies.

Searched further and ended up at bladeforums.com in the middle of the Duncan/Mah feud – (May have swayed me about buying a Whiplash after I look further) and of course rechecked your page to see what is new in the fertile mind of our Romanian brother. Your Double Blade Kerambit is sinister-cool. I do, however, like the Warren Thomas design also. It looks like the straight rest on the top of the blade would allow a more forceful downward slash/rip/cut using the forward grip. Also found the following Reese Weiland offering on BF. Damascus! I would imagine that’s a costly little sucker! Off to search some more…..

LOL, there's a lot of good stuff at the Yamashita site. For instance, I didn't know Ernie Emerson spoke Japanese! (see pic

LOL

Dan,

Post the rest of this picture chain and its almsot a cartoon. Looks painful after Ernie gives his final "Banzai!" there.
