Dropped my Resilience point first today!
Dropped my Resilience point first today!
I froze in horror, watching my much-loved Spyderco Resilience fall, tip-first toward the tiled kitchen floor below.
There was a sickening chipping sound and I heard a second impact as a piece flew off and struck the skirting board.
In my mind I was already contemplating the options for re-grinding of the snapped tip.
I looked under the table and found the stricken knife:
Overjoyed, I set about hiding the crime:
Now that's what I call a "drop-point"!
Resilience by name, Resilience by nature!

The best thing is, it's my mother-in-law's floor!

This is hilarious. Great buildup with even better end result. That whole line of "Value" folders are amazing. The tenacious is what started my obsession with Spyderco knives. A drop of rubber cement under that and she would never know it happened..

This put a smile on my face

I got a good laugh from this, thanks. :Dxavierdoc wrote:The best thing is, it's my mother-in-law's floor!
BTW I also dropped a knife on my mother-in-law's floor.
Shhhh, put the carpet runner back and nobody will know.

Hahaha! You do realize you may not win the coveted "Son-In-Law of the Year" Award for doing this, right? :pxavierdoc wrote:The best thing is, it's my mother-in-law's floor!

The last knife I dropped was a 4V test blade out in the garage, fell of the table.... On to bare concrete...
Clink, clink as it bounced a few times, no damage though thankfully, I got lucky i think.

It came out better than my S30V para2 did when I dropped it on asphalt. Snapped about 1/16 of an inch off or maybe more. The tip snapped off all the way to where the bevel ended/started.

I'd probably have tried to catch it, ending up with blood on the floor as well as chip.

It has long since been resharpened back to a point. Oh well, lesson learned. I am not clumsy normally but things do happen.

I have scars from catching flying sharp things. Definitely likely to do this.aesmith wrote:I'd probably have tried to catch it, ending up with blood on the floor as well as chip.

I have, however, dropped a Byrd Wings SlipIt a couple of times on concrete with nothing more than a mild scratch. The blunt tips are probably much harder to break.

Re: Dropped my Resilience point first today!
Does anyone think the 8cr13 played a role in not snapping or am I overthinking this? My kitchen knives in 8cr13 are rugged as a barn cat (my wife is rough on them) but don't hold an edge long. I just run them through my electric Chef's Pro sharpener every other week or so and try to get her to use the wooden cutting boards
