My new favorite EDC...
And here it is...
Seriously, this thing has completely taken over my pocket. I've had it about two weeks and done extensive work with it and just love everything about it. Best box opener I've ever owned. Tip is plenty strong and works amazingly for detail work. Did a ton of net cutting last week while fishing in Mexico and it worked like a dream...preferred it to my serrated tasman actually. I find that it is capable of 98% of my edc tasks and really outperforms at most of them. Pretty much the only area where the blade shape falls short is when trying to cut material on a flat surface like a cutting board. I have been able to easily work around that so far and for me it is a minor drawback in relation to how well the knife works for most other chores. Love love love this knife!

If it wasn't bbs and too expensive for me with shipping I would have one by now. Still thinking about it though. I have been prowling the exchange for one for a while and they never come up. I just missed the only one I have seen on there by just a few minutes. If one comes my way second hand I am gonna jump on it but so far that hasn't happened.

No salt, i'm surprised.

Speaking of which, there really needs to be a reverse S bladed Salt knife.SpydyLover123 wrote:No salt, i'm surprised.

Agreed. This would make an outstanding salt knife. Like i said, i much prefer it to the hawkbill Tasman. Really all i use on a hawkbill is the last inch at the tip so this gives me the same kind of tip with a blade shape that is more versatile.Evil D wrote:Speaking of which, there really needs to be a reverse S bladed Salt knife.SpydyLover123 wrote:No salt, i'm surprised.

It's amazing how some blade shapes that at first look so wrong, turn out so right after we get them in hand and the design speaks to you. I was that way with the Yojimbo2, now it is my top dog EDC. Never would have believed it when I first saw a picture of it.
Congrats Lance on your new EDC!

Re: My new favorite EDC...
hey Darby, we actually had some discussion about this last year and I think I even put up a poll. I voted Hawkbill at the time but I think that given how useful I have found this blade shape I would change my vote for a new swick from hawkbill to reverse S. And in a non corrosive steel like lc200? Even better!bearfacedkiller wrote:reverse s swick? hmmm...
But like EvilD said, i would love to see them just add this exact knife to the regular salt line.

Microbevel on the corners of the sharp maker. I've already sharpened it twice and it takes all of about thirty seconds to get it back to screaming sharp. Nothing to it.elena86 wrote:How do you sharpen it Lance ?

Good to hear coming from someone known to put the knife through the rigorous ringer!
Coincidentally I've got one on its way to me also!
(Sorry Darby).

Not yet, but we're working on that.

I was not expecting to see that knife as your favourite! I would love to see a review on the knife after you put it to work some more! :D

Isn't it obvious that he sharpens it with an Anvil and a Ball Peen hammer? :)elena86 wrote:How do you sharpen it Lance ?

How much hammering did it take to change the handle color?

Yeah I've been saying that for five years now  And I realize that not everyone's cutting needs will accomodate a serrated edge as you can see that Surfingringo needs a plain edge for his everyday carry. But I do know that he also uses Spyderedges because I've heard him say as muchEvil D wrote:Speaking of which, there really needs to be a reverse S bladed Salt knife.SpydyLover123 wrote:No salt, i'm surprised.
I had a good friend who used to be here on the Forum all the time but he left about 7 years ago and he used a PE Harpy for his main EDC blade. It's just a matter of what your daily cutting chores consist of. I do indeed like the belly on Reverse S blades and just like the Hawkbills; Spyderco's are the best Reverse S blades out there. There really isn't much competition for them in those sectors.
Yeah with the success that the H-1 Spyderhawk had I wouldn't mind seeing the Matriarch and Civilian both in the H-1 Salt Series.
