Cricket, Cat (sand down the scales smooth and it looks a lot more gentlemanly), Kiwi 3 or black Roadie if slip joints are ok.

Perhaps a spyderco Roadie or urban lightweight if you find a slip joint acceptable. I took a look at the cat, it looks nice!

One more vote for the SS Dragonfly, you could get it engraved. Or the tattooed version, that's like artwork in your pocket. The Cricket is another good choice. Both knives can be used as a money clip...nothing says "fancy" like a money clip. ;)

I'd go with a Centofante 3. Capable enough for EDC, but simple and subdued enough that it could pass for a gentleman's knife.

Depends on how big you're willing to go, but the Centofante 3/4 are very light weight, elegant looking and not too expensive.

I'd recommend the Sage 1 but that is probably out of your budget

However, my pink Delica doesn't quite fit the bill when I'm wearing a bow tie...I have gotten by with a gunmetal Victorinox Cadet which is now scratched up enough to have character, but it just doesn't seem to fit the bill and it lacking a clip means it gets lost in my inner jacket pockets. I'm in Illinois and based in the Chicago area to keep knife laws in context. I'm finally working and happy, but want this to be as affordable as possible, nothing over the top for my budget.

I use my Nishijin Cricket as a money clip sometimes. It works very well and is quite classy. :)

If a clip is required, then I agree with the suggestions for the Dragonfly, Cricket or Spin. If you're lucky, then you can find an etched version which looks very nice.

There's also the SS Balance and Equilibrium. Both are under 2.5" and under $100.

I guess a Cat would work well, has clip & lock and if you want more gentlemanlike than FRN the G10 would indeed be easy to sand and possibly polish.
I believe the SS versions of any blade looks very classy but I wouldn't like the weight when wearing it on a suit pocket.

Traditional penknife? If it has to be Spyderco with a clip and a lock, then I second the recommendation of a Dragonfly with one of the pretty handle options.

I think that for your situation rainbow Dragonfly would be one of the best choices.

I believe that the Nishijin D'fly is also an awesome little gents knife......but maybe a bit over your limit. The Dragonfly Tattoo is another SS offering that has a nice print on the SS........I think this might be what was meant by the rainbow D'Fly comment above due to the colouring of the print......but I'm not 100% sure......perhaps there is a "rainbow" D'fly?

That's my suggestion too... I cannot really think of a sub $50 Spydie that looks good enough to make a good gentleman's folder :o.

How about a Victorinox with Alox scales, like a Cadet? They are about the right size, stylish, great quality, people friendly and pretty affordable.
