UKPK blade and spring swap question

#1

Post by Liquid Cobra »

Is it possible to take the old FRN UKPK model scales and add the new model blade and spring? Or is that impossible because of the new spring? What about just a straight blade swap?

Help!

Yes, Liquid Cobra, as shown via the pic. However, in my samples, the kick and tang of the older version blade is different from the FFG version, so the forked spring only works with the FFG blade. If you mix the blade and spring, the blade will not fully seat in the scales upon closing, which is a safety issue.

Keep in mind the swapping voids the warranty.

I always thought pinned and riveted is the same. What is the difference?

Swapping the blade might work with a forked spring and the newer FFG models, I can at least confirm that it won't work with the older hollow ground blades.

Rivets usually consist of two different parts like the corby rivet, a pinned handle is put together with pieces of solid metal.

Yes, it does work with the newer FFG models. Here's a drop point blade from a black FRN model that I swapped into an orange handle. Swapping blades between different generations of the spring Spyderco uses in these UKPK's isn't possible AFAIK. Good luck! Radioactive :)

Rivets can be solid too.
