How 'bout this?

Did a search on Google and came up with this site. http://lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs ... oping.html

WISHING AND HOPING
(Burt Bacharach)
Dionne Warwick

Wishing and hoping and thinking and praying
Planning and dreaming each night of his charms
That won't get you into his arms
So if you're looking to find love you can share
All you got to do is hold him and kiss him and love him
And show him that you care

Show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinking and a-praying, wishing and a-hoping

'Cause wishing and hoping and thinking and praying
Planning and dreaming his kisses will start
That won't get you into his heart
So if you're thinking of how great true love is

All you got to do is hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it
And after you do, you will be his

You got to show him that you care just for him
Do the things he likes to do
Wear your hair just for him, 'cause
You won't get him
Thinking and a-praying, wishing and a-hoping

'Cause wishing and hoping and thinking and praying
Planning and dreaming his kisses will start
That won't get you into his heart
So if you're thinking of how great true love is

All you got to do is hold him and kiss him and squeeze him and love him
Yeah, just do it
And after you do, you will be his
You will be his (2x)

Patogordo,

The prime artist for Bacharat-David’s <i>Wishin’ and Hopin’ </i> and, IMO, the best version was done by the UK’s White Lady of Soul, Dusty Springfield. Dusty was born Mary O'Brien in London, 1939 and achieved fame with hit the singles <i>Wishin' And Hopin', Son Of A Preacher Man, I Only Want To Be With You, Silver Threads And Golden Needles </i> (later redone by Linda Ronstadt , and <i>You Don't Have To Say You Love Me </i> , all from her first album, <i>A Girl Named Dusty </i> .

<i>Wishin’ and Hoppin’ </i> became one of Dusty’s cover songs and was redone by Dionne Warwick, Anita Harris, Rita Coolidge, Nancy Sinatra, Brenda Lee, The Merseybeats, and most recently by Ani DiFranco on the "My Best Friend's Wedding" soundtrack.

<i>A Girl Named Dusty </i> may not be available on CD but there are several of her Golden Hits albums avaailable. Search on Amazon or CDNow and pick your preference after listening to the audio clips.

Geez! java, Thanks..... I had heard Dusty's "Son of a Preacher Man" a couple days ago on an oldy station. When I first read patagordo's post, I thought, Dusty Springfield. I could even hear the lyric and melody in my head. Then I read Rom's post, and thought, guess not....

I should go with my first instincts far more often <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

ROM831 and Chuck,

As a teen, I was in love with Dusty from the first time I heard "Son of a Preacher Man". (Dionne Warwick had yet to release her first hit single, "Walk on By" later the same year.) Together with Lulu, "To Sir With Love" and Petula Clark, "Downtown" these 3 "birds" formed part of the early "British invasion" and paved the way for acts like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, etc. Reminds me of a twisted adage I heard a while back - Behind every successful man is a woman and behind her is his wife. Ouch! Mrs Java doesn't like that one much......
Dusty Springfield died of breast cancer in 1999. The world was blessed to have heard her voice for such a short time.

<b>A man is only as old as the woman he feels." </b> - Groucho Marx

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Sorry, dear.....

"I Only Want To Be With You." was my favorite by Dusty. Hey, Java, how about Marianne Faithfull? I thought she was the "looker" of the bunch.
