Funny story from Christmas about my Techno

#1

Post by swigert »

I keep meaning to post this and keep forgetting.

I decided the Techno would be a great Christmas carry this year. Very sheeple friendly, would easily open packages and some kids toys need a little prying sometimes and I know it is up for the job :D

Anyways, sitting in my living room and I take the techno out and flip it open. My mom goes, "WHOA! That's a huge knife".

I look at her like  did you really just say that?

All I could say is "really? This thing is tiny"

So funny what non knife people think about knives sometimes. All in all I came away thinking whatever knife I carry it really doesn't matter. Gonna scare some people no matter what.

I guess next year I'll try the roadie and see where we get :D

"Steeple"?.. Church knife? Sorry, that gave me a chuckle. I'm sure you meant sheeple.

That just goes to show no matter how much the knife laws change, and how friendly and small the knife gets someone will still think its menacing. Thanks for sharing!

It's not the length that surprised her, but the thickness ;)  :D

Could have been the motion of the open. ;)

Christmas is a funny holiday for us knuts. I handed my aunt my Foundry to open something. She held it with her thumb on the edge and proceeded to cut towards herself through some plastic packaging...it wasn't the best factory edge I've ever seen, but still she got away with one there. And of course, I had to close it for her. Darn contraptions...

My Dad, a former Marine, saw my Techno on Christmas, and in all genuine seriousness said "oh, lethal". This comes from a man who carried a handgun most of his adult life. I had to dig further. Turns out only the thugs and violent kids, prone on using them, carried knives in his town growing up. Still don't get it, especially from my dad, but it was his explanation.

Reminds me I must be cognizant of people's predispostions on knives. They are out there.

Interesting. It'd be a fun experiment for us to do a non-scientific, objective sample of Spydercos with non-knife people to see which they find scary-to-non-scary on a scale of 1-10. I always assume my Techno is a friendly face, but I guess not compared to a Swiss Army Knife.

I guess the wide blade might give the appearance of a larger knife in the mind of a NKP used to the thin blade of a traditional pocket knife or SAK.

I was showing a colleague of mine my new yellow Ladybug Hawkbill the other day. Another guy walks in and said, 'Wow that is really a deadly blade'. He was completely serious and somewhat disgusted that I would choose to carry something deadly like that. I was just dumbstruck.
