Rick Hinderer Collab?

#1

Post by MacLaren »

I realize Rick has collabs with ZT. However, after receiving my 0562CF, I couldn't help but wanting a Slicer version (XM-18) Spydie style if you will. What if any are the chances this could happen? If anything the more flippers the better imo :)

It would be great but I think the 0562CF it's a real challenge for the other makers in terms of price and F&F. One of my all time favs for sure.

I know better not to speak for Spyderco but since that model (as far as I know) is currently being made by ZT I doubt they will make a variant of his XM Folder.

It would be a very cool knife i imagine, if it ever happens. Personally, I would rather see a collaboration with Strider

I agree, I would much rather see one with Strider also.

Something along the SmF or SnG lines would be nice.

I would love to see a Hinderer Spyderco. His designs have really grown on me, mostly because I like flippers. I'm sure his deal with KAI would forbid any such collaboration for now, but I'd much prefer a Hinderer to a Strider. Something about the Strider look is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Never say never. I think Rick also does the TDI designs for Ka Bar so he does work with other companies. If there is a will from both sides to do something then anything is possible.

If you like Strider and Hinderer, you should check out the discontinued Spyderco SuperLeaf. Not a collab, but a very nice knife of similar size. Full steel liners, compression lock, large choil, and thick blade. VG-10 and made in Seki-City.

Superleaf is 4mm thick VG10, if you did not know. Very Strider-esque

I'd be really excited for a Strider PT Spyderco collab, that is a perfect little EDC sized knife right there.

The only knife that regularly knocks Spydies out of my pocket is my Zero Tolerance 0770 (cf/m390) which is a Hinderer Collab. I've also got a Hinderer pen in my EDC tools.

I'd LOVE to see a Spyderco Hinderer.

The 0770 (and the 0777 from which it is derived) was not designed by Rick Hinderer. It is a KAI USA in house design project led by Jim McNair.

The 770 is the only ZT I've really been tempted to get. I really like the blade shape/grind.

This 0562, is quickly becoming my favorite.
I love the blade. It does everything very well. From opening boxes, toys etc., phenomenal slicer. Just sayin......overall though I would still say the Domino. The ZT is just that good.

The ZT 0770 (I have all three variants) is great slicer for those with smaller hands. It's all the more appealing with the recent holiday price drops. But beware, the aluminum handled original is a tad slippery.
