The indispensable second

Post by Eremitike »

We've heard often of what your personal favorite Spyderco knife is, but if you carry more than one knife at a time, what might that second one be that you "just can't leave home without"?

For me, regardless of what my primary knife is (lately, the Chinook) my FRN Cricket PE is always with me, either clipped to my dress suspenders, or down in my left front pocket. I often carry a well-worn Leatherman Micra as well. Sometimes I'll add a PE Spydercard in my wallet. But that's all, because, you know, I don't want to overdo it...

How about you guys (and gals); what's your indispensable second?

I would have to say that I have an indispensible second, third, and (sometimes)fourth.

In this order,

Blue Rescue SE
Leatherman Micra
Jester SE on keychain
FRN Cricket SE (occasionally)

One can never have enough s on hand.

Survive, Adapt, and Overcome...

Well, when I am carrying my plain edge Military it is always my serrated G-10 Police. What a great combination, these two!

I'm always carrying my CE Millie for the last 3 months... my 2nd has been my PE Calypso Jr lt. I'm always carrying the PE Spydercard since I always have my wallet on me(but it's sharp enough to shave with, so I'll have it as a spare in the event I HAVE to shave).

And shepherds we shall be, for thee my lord for thee. Power hath decended forth from thy hand so our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. And we shall flow a river forth to thee and teaming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, Et Filii, Et Spiritus Sancti.

I always have my PE Ladybug with me, so it could well be considered my backup.

Prefering PE knives, if ever I carry a SE knife I always carry a PE varient as well.
So if I'm carrying my G-10 Harpy, I'll usually also cary my PE G-10 Standard, in the same way that if I were carrying my SS Harpy my SS PE Delica would also be with me.

Walk softly, carry a big stick.

The first is the PE FRN Delica. The second, there might be the Ladybug attached on the keyring. Or the Meerkat.

Hitler once said "fanaticism is a matter

of climate.."(WE are "fanatics" are

we not?) So, this being the euphemism

I NOW carry the SE cricket clipped

to my outside pocket, and my red

ladybug on a "ball chain" borrowed

from my CRKT (yes I buy OTHER

brands!) Ryan "Plan B" around my

neck (rather than on an inaccessable

keychain/ring ) This is my current

"rig" but could change (short of the

SE cricket ) No matter.

I never leave home without my SAK. My latest is the Cadet because of it's right size for my pocket. Second is a Rescue that rides in my jacket pocket most of the year and clipped to my pants pocket when I'm without a jacket. I've gone through at least four Rescue's, starting with the old style yellow molded plastic clips to the latest blue model. I think I still have at least one old-style Rescue in my first-aid kit, and I have one with a broken clip in my tool box. I use my knives daily, mostly in my work, and sometimes it's not a pretty sight (don't worry, I sharpen and clean them daily). Next in line is either a Toad (when in the office) or a Calypso, Jr. SE. The Toad is great for opening packages or cutting paper-kind of like a small razor blade. I've even mastered the art of cutting through a single sheet of paper laid flat without scratching the table surface. The secret is a razor sharp knife and light hand.

My 2 EDC "carry knives" are both Spydies;

A SS PE Delica
A SS PE Police

(I think of the Police model as my "defensive/offensive" folder, and the Delica as my "secondary", or "utility knife".).

However, the SS Police is soon to be replaced with a G-10 serrated Police model that fellow forumite member ATE is sending to me shortly. That G-10 Police model has always been my "dream knife", and now through the kindness of Allen, that dream is soon to come true. .

There appear to be quite a few of us that carry at least a second "edged tool", and a lot that carry multiples. There were a couple of earlier topics that discuss what the other toys are, and even the qty usually carried by a lot of us.. You will find then most entertaining to read. I believe the topics are under a title such as ..how many knives do you carry, or some such thing....
