What's next for me...

#1

Post by swigert »

Hey Guys,

Well I'm a year into Spyderco and showing no sign of slowing down. Help me pick the next one or two!

What I have:
Slysz Bowie
Manix 2 CRUwear
LWT Manix 2 s110v
Yojimbo 2 CF s90v
Native 5 CF s110v
Sage 1
Techno
Caly 3.5 g10 vg10
PM2 s30v
Pacific salt serrated
Military All Black
Domino
Stretch Super Blue
Southfork

I think that's it at the moment. What should be next? I'd prefer to buy new? Wouldn't mind some older models of they can be found....

What am I missing???

You have a very well-rounded collection there, sir. It's hard to improve on what you already have, but here are a few of my favorite models you just might *need* for your collection (in no particular order):

1. GB Air
2. Starmate (original)
3. Centofante Memory
4. Lum Chinese Folder (Jade Green or Gun-metal Blue)
5. Poliwog
6. Vesuvius
7. Persian (any variation)
8. Viele
9. Terzuola C19 or C15
10. Phoenix

I'm going to suggest that you investigate the joys of an FRN Delica or Endura. Really.

I have had an endura and sold it. I'm really thinking about a delica with custom scales and a Casey lynch deep carry clip...

Swigert, like my fellow forumites have already suggested, you have great spydies, but truly need MORE to round out your collection.
You are missing the following AT LEAST

Mule Team (every member should sample at least 3 or 4 Mules... see me for resources)
Swick (one of the most handy and practical fixed blade Spydies ever, IMO)
Tasman Salt (SE) you need teeth and some curve in your collection, might as well be H1
Lil Matriarch (SE) this knife in VG-10 will not hold a serrated edge like H1 but I find serrated VG-10 to be super practical and highly functional
GB Air or Des Horn or Kiwi 4 (you needs some wharncliffe in your life.... trust me you will wonder how you went without).

I feel you need more suggestions, but these will get you started. Come back to me if you collect my list. ;)

You should take a look at the Schempp Tuff...and maybe at the Seratta as well.

You are missing four of the most important for your collection:

1. Dragonfly G10
2. Delica
3. Chaparral
4. Manbug G10

(You could also add a Cat for number five and find you love it)

Get a super blue dragonfly while they're still reasonably priced. Or the last Goddard sprint before they get outrageous.
I carry a serrated Robin2 at work, a Cara Cara Rescue 2 in the glove box, and a ZDP Dragonfly or Junior everywhere else. My PM2 sits on a shelf with a small assortment of Kershaws.
Waiting patiently for the Native 5 lightweight and the Lil' Temperance 2.

I would recommend anything from the slipjoint line. I love my orange spy-dk.
The spydies are some of the most safest and functional slippies in the market today.

Your collection is very well rounded but you are missing three knives which are high on my wish list. If you are enjoying super blue then I recommend getting a super blue dragonfly, if you enjoy the wharncliffe style blade on your yo2 then I would recommend a kiwi4 and a chaparral with it 2mm stock would also be a nice addition. I own none of them but want them all. I must also second the swick recommendation as I have both the three and four and they are amazingly useful and ergonomic designs.

1. SOUTHARD!
2. An all stainless model, maybe a Delica?
3. A Ladybug in your favorite flavor for your keychain.

Nice collection.

I would add a Dragonfly, a Swick 3, and a Mule Team. If you want to start down the discontinued route, search for an original Starmate, Poliwog, Lum, Kopa, or original Centofante (25 or C50).

Michael,
You beat me. I was thinking about advising on some discontinued as well. But I strongly disagree on "any variation". It must be original black micarta Persian, actually any variation of that variant. :)
Also I would add Kopa and Shabaria to this mix

I think my next 3 might all be PM2's....all black one next for sure, then Camo & Satin....then probably a plain Jane because I got some PM2 glowing scales, that I'll use on a EXTRA ....maybe a serrated police 3 while I can still find one.

I have the lil Lionspy now. The Southard is always getting pushed back and I've never been more on the fence about a knife then I am with the rubicon.
