Poll - Spyderco Friction Folder

Just wondering how everyone would feel about a Spyderco friction folder. As they are non locking they are legal pretty much everywhere (so long as the blade is shorter than 3ins).

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there is one in the works. I think I recall seeing a proto

I like the idea. I prefer a Spyderco with 3-3.5 or 4 inch blade, that locks, but, I definitely want to see a good, solid Spyderco friction folder that does need two hands to open, so people could carry it without fear of mistaken arrest.

There was a friction folder in the works, but Sal said this about the project in another thread...
The friction folder kind of fell by the wayside when the knife maker and the handle maker had a disagreement. We ended up dropping the project to stop friction. We have another knife of Filleep's that we will be doing instead. Unfortunately for you in London, it's Walker Linerlock and not legal to carry.

On the Mike Read folder; blade is just under 3", cutting edge about 2-3/4", handle about 4-1/8". This one should be legal in the UK to carry.

sal
I wonder if there's any hope for resuming the project?

Hi Folks!

For me it was a shame to let go the FF project. Filip De Leeuw's FF designs are just superb.

I wish Spyderco finish this project sometime in the future. It'd be the first FF for Spyderco, and truly a very nice one. :)

I wouldn't be interested. I'm not a fan of non-locking folders in general and have no plans to visit any area where they're the only legal knives. If I did, I'd prefer something like the UKPK or Terzuola Ball Joint because I think they are considerably more practical due to the tang extension that friction folders inevitably have.

I have to agree with you about friction folders with the long tang extensions, they have never appealed to me either. But I have to say I'm starting to change my mind. Just looking at some examples from custom knife maker Jared Price

and how about Bastinelli Creations BB Dragotac

I reckon a Spyderco friction folder with a Spydie-hole and a small tang extension would be pretty awesome

No interest here. I strongly prefer knives with a lock. I have one UKPK. This is enough.

I like a knife that tends to close itself if you open it slightly by accident. This is my one criticism of my Millie.

The Dragotac is very interesting looking, but to actually carry, I'd rather have a foliage green G-10 UK Penknife.

The BB Dragotac actually comes with a small kydex sheath and paracord for neck carry but I guess you could adapt it for a keyring or something else
